NYC Travel capsule 1 - need help, all my stuff

I've got the best kids and best neighbours - both parties helped me carve out some time to start the travel capsule fun. I'll do several posts to break it down, like choosing bottoms, dresses, shoes, bags etc. Anyway, here are about all the stuff I'd like to bring.

I'm packing for 9 days (travelling time included) and the purpuses will be very casual business, galleris / parks / sightseeing / shopping, restaurants, moderate night life / jazz club. I briefly started the process here: http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....x-too-much

My approx packing list:
- 8 tops
- 2 blazers
- 3-4 cardis (1 light wool, 2 linnen)
- 3-4 bottoms (jeans, denim shorts, pencil skirt, denim or linnen skirt)
- 2-3 dresses (LBD + 2 floral)
- 2-3x walking shoes/ gladiator sandals
- 1 heeled booties
- 1 pumps
- 2 bags (+ flip&tumble bag, midnight/slate http://www.flipandtumble.com/s.....hop247.php)
- 2 scarves (green Monet-ish + another)
- 1 black pashmina
- camis (grey, white, black)
- hose (grey, black, purple)
- beige trench

#1 Tops
#2 Bottoms
#3 Blazer
#4 Cardis
#5 Denim dress
#6 Cream silk blouse
#7 Walking shoes
#8 Gladiator sandal
#9 Glittery Toms (sort of walking shoes)
#10 bags
#11 Booties
#12 Pumps / clog-like sandal
#13 Some alternative scarves

ETA: Versatility is crucial, as well as taking as few items as possible without the need to wash clothes

Looks like you're off to a good start. Don't forget an umbrella! It's been very rainy these last few days in the Northeast US. In similar vein, make sure you have at least one pair of shoes that is more or less waterproof and closed toe. (I don't think rain boots are probably necessary, but something like non-suede walkable booties would be good.

All you have to do is narrow down the shoes and bags, and you are almost there! Good job.

A great start! Looks like you have enough versatility to keep you from feeling like you're wearing the same thing. How many shoes/scarves/bags are you going to pack?

This is a great capsule, but if it were me, I'd cut it all down by about half - 1 pair walking shoes (water resistant), 1 pair of casual flats, 1 pair of dress shoes, 1 dress, a couple of skirts, a couple of rayon blouses that could work as casual or dressy, etc. And see if you can hand-wash or get access to laundry facilities. Then you'll have room in your bags to bring back some new clothes

You've come a long way since your first travel post! I agree that you need to narrow the selection of shoes (and I think bags, too). Make sure you keep at least one pair of shoes with some arch support. You walk more in NYC than any other city, which I love. No better way to explore, and smells better than the Subway!

Everything looks really good!

I would suggest the following:

Bags: I think the grey crossover will do for the week. I'd add a small clutch for evening.
The jean shorts in #2: Those are not needed around these parts yet. They can look really out of place unless worn with tights or it is 90 degrees out.
Shoes: You need a pair of shoes that you can wear in the rain. I'd leave the jean sneaker, the high heel boots and the clog like sandals.
Outerwear: Are you bringing a trench or parka? The temperatures are really variable here, you might want to bring an outer layer. ETA: I see you listed a beige trench. Never mind:)
About laundry: Some hotels might have laundry facilities, but the most available option is public laundromats and that is a whole day project. I would not pack thinking that I could do laundry while away.

Thank you all Biscuitmom, Diana, modgrl, Angie, Claire, Jilly, Beth Ann and Zapotee!!

I will narrow it down:
- 2 handbbags (green + taupe cross body bag),
- 3-4 pair of shoes (not decided yet) The heels on the suede booties are comfy for walking almost a whole day. I am considering getting a new pair of walking shoes before leaving... (it's on my list of wardrobe holes)
- Umbrella is packed *remember to check weather forcast*
- big suitcase is ready for action and I intend to fill it with max 1/3, leaving 2/3's for fun stuff to bring home

No laundry!! I'll have to be covered for every day without washing clothes or depending on the hotels laundry facilities, so one top for daytime and probably another for evenings almost every day.

Denim shorts goes with tights (something like #1-6) (wow, I was busy and working *fast* with the outfits and photos yesterday!)

For the shorts, I think pic #4 looks great! Thumbs up for organising the rest of your packing, packing less is definitely better so you can shop more!

I think all the shoes are good except you only need 1 of each type

1 pair of the booties (I suggest the short ones) and one pretty heel ( I suggest the pumps). One sandal will do, I suggest the low ones. For walking, I am not sure the tom's will hold up, so I would take the dark grey ones you show

And for the shorts I liked pic 1

Shoes will be:
- suede booties
- black pumps (can be in my bag to switch if I want/need)
- gladiator sandal

Still not decided on walking shoes Toms / blue shoes / black ones...
