I see that ladies on this forum tend to be loyal to some stores, notably ATL, BR, JCrew, etc, but NY&Co is not one of them. Is there a particular reason why you tend to avoid this store? I am asking because they have a huge sale going on right now. They have many attractive tops starting at $8!!!
I am particularly interested in the following items:

I happen to like NY&Co. I think they have great jewelry and their clothes aren't half bad for the price. I guess most people here aren't really budget shoppers, but if you are it's great.

Bella, I too have a few nice pieces from NY and Co. Their quality isn't the greatest, but it's not horrible either. It's the kind of place that you have to judge each piece individually. I have a top from there that is really well made and the fabric feels very high quality. I've also returned things I bought online there, because the quality was not worth the price.

I am definitely a bargain shopper, and I always check NY and Co., Esprit, and even Target. I don't think quality comes from a high price. I have things I bought at Target that have held up really well, and things that came from Macy's that pilled, snagged and fell apart.

I don't shop based on name. I buy things based on what I'm looking for. I have a heck of a time finding shirts at AT and ATL that fit. Most of my favorite tops have come from Marshalls actually.

I have a couple of things from NY&Co: some jewelry pieces, two denim bottoms (walk shorts and skirt) and a couple of cotton shirts. Usually I avoid the clothes from there, for two reasons: they cut their stuff really big, so their XS is too big for me; and most of them are made from non-natural materials that don't feel good against my skin. But if I find something cute that fits well and is cotton or linen, I get it. In fact, one of my favorite tops this summer- a turquoise tunic came from there.

I think it's also a regional thing, and it's not that well-known in this neck of the woods. I'm a very eclectic shopper, sometimes shopping at higher end boutiques, often at mainstream chains like Express, at departments stores like Macy's, and sometimes at budget stores like Target as well as at consignment stores. I hadn't even heard about NY&Co until I joined the forum, and I think we haven't had a store in the Seattle until relatively recently. There is one now at the Southcenter mall, which is a location that I imagine most YLFers (even the Seattle ones) don't shop at frequently, though I do quite often since they have a H&M and it's close to where I live. I have to check it out next time I'm down there.

Antje, there used to be NY&Co store in downtown Seattle a long time ago (10+ years). Then they closed a bunch of stores all over the state and I didn't even know there was still one in Southcenter- where I never go there because of the traffic. I wish there was one closer, because from what I remember, the quality wasn't great, but you could find some decent pieces. But of course it could be completely different now.

NY&Co is everywhere in the east coast, so it is a really readily available, affordable alternative store.
Tanya- you make a good point. I just remembered that I have a basic white shirt from NY&co. Even though it is an XS, it is a bit roomy so I use it as a layering piece.
I think I will have to check out individual items for fit and quality.

I've actually had the same problem as Tanya - their sizes have been too big on me. I have shopped there before, but didn't find anything, so I haven't gone back. There is a shop in the local mall, so I will probably give it another try sometime.

I like the shirts and the jeans are cute too!

Sometimes when I have repeated unsuccessful attempts at a store, I will stay away for a while. That happened to me recently with Kohls. I have found some cute things there, but the past couple of times nothing really worked. I tend to stick to stores that are "tried and true" so I don't waste my time, but it's a good idea now and then to check out some new places.

I ventured to NY&Co today to see in person some of the items, especially the jeans.

Jeans fit really well and are the exact color that I wanted. They will need to be hemmed, but it's ok. I hope they don't give too much.

They have a lot of things on super sale. But Tanya and Violet were right, their sizes are too big. I picked out many cute things to try on, but they didn't fit me.
Oh well, I used my coupons and I think I did pretty well.

San, NY and Co is a store that sells their own brand of clothing. I think the Macy house brand is called Style and Co.

Thank you for the feedback! I think I might wear the second outfit to a holiday party at a friend's house. It will be a casual but put together look ideal for such an occasion. I will probably accessorize with some silver jewelry.

Looks like a successful shopping trip! Love the jeans and the black and white print cardigan. I had never hear of NY&Co (they are not in my local mall) but with those prices I'll have to check them out!
