Markets are such dangerous places! I need to decide in the next 2.5 hours, by 6 pm mid-European time. I know exactly why I like it—it is the same color as the cotton dress with full skirt that my mom returned to the store after all the pleats came out in the wash when I was in 8th grade. No pleats to worry about this time! I’m wearing sweater tights & an undershirt with it here, would not do do oitw. In pic 3, it is not laced up. A larger size is available, but not smaller

I think it’s lovely on you. Some considerations:
-Can you lace it on your own?
-You’ve mentioned feeling like you have too much blue. Would this be “yet another blue dress” or is it different enough?
-Will it live up to the memory of that lost dress or are you just trying to recapture a feeling?
-Assuming it’s cotton, are you willing to iron/steam it or wear it wrinkled?

ETA: Also, it’s has a rather prim vibe to me, although it does have some interesting details. How would you accessorize?

Yes, it brings back the memory of that dress in a good, happy way.

Your last question is a very good one indeed. I understand now completely why my mother didn’t want to iron the pleats back into that other dress. This one doesn’t have those, but as it’s all cotton, I would have to be ready for it to need pressing, at least occasionally. Hm

PS. I just ran into the woman behind me in pic 4; she bought the piece she was trying on. It’s a size or two too small, but the seller convinced her that it works as well open as closed. Excellent sales technique, but I don’t want to rely on her advice.

Wise to not rely on the salesperson, but I don’t think you have to worry about fit here. It looks great to my eye, even unlaced.

I will have to see if it is on their website in January for less. 150 is too much for a spontaneous purchase

Nikki, I tried. They came down from 159 to 150, then laughed. If it’s meant to be, it will be there later.

What a gorgeous dress! The sleeves & neckline make it feel a little different to the traditional style - I can see it fitting your 'slightly RATE farmer's wife' aesthetic.

It’s beautiful on you. I can’t help you around the practicalities of it (will you wear it? Does it fill a gap?) but it is a beautiful dress and the colour really suits you.

Of course, but you mentioned needing to press it occasionally & you have those nice patent shoes in your other post - hence just rough 'around the edges', not all around

No I got it - hence the modified moniker of 'RATE farmer's wife' instead of 'actual farmer's wife' lol!

Nothing against farmers (or their wives), mind you - just that they probably don't wear much patent footwear or press their everyday clothes

Zaoebi, You’re the one who suggested RATE farmers wife, not me. I’m trying to get away from that look altogether. I do ask for opinions, so should be graceful in accepting that you think I look like a rougher version of what I described as shlubby and shapeless. Good to know what you really think—I’m surprised to hear you say that, but am aware there are others on here who agree.

Thanks Sally. I’m holding my breath until Dec when I hear if i got the grant. But even if I didn’t, I can see wearing this in archives, etc and to some jobs I might apply for.

It looks great on you, and I like the fit, both laced and not. The only though that went through my mind is that it's a bit longer than most of the dresses/skirts that you wear. But that could be "completely different" in a good way. Otherwise, if you like it, and think you'll wear it, then I'm all in favor of waiting until it's the price you want to pay, and then grabbing it.

Thanks Kathie! I used to wear this length a lot. Shortly after we moved here, when I saw it trending again, I was excited to get my bin of skirts this length out of storage. When I finally got back there, I saw that & many other things had been stolen. So I’ve been thinking of more skirts this length, just am not good at going out with a list in hand.
