Not posting much because of Dog bite

We took B to the Vet yesterday...he has not been able to absorb food right and is losing weight He was very crabby and drew blood on me twice (once on a Tech) and of course it needed to be on my left hand, which is my dominant one.The bites are making it difficult to write, so I will pretty much just be reading the Forum until I can write easier, trying to type with my other hand is nearly impossible. Just wanted y'all to know Im still here, but silent for a hopefully short time!

Thanks so much! No, didnt have a tetanus shot, or even go to the Dr...kept applying pressure till the bleeding stopped, washed it out good, poured Hydrogen Peroxide on it a few times a day and keeping it bandaged up. It's healing, but still cant do much with my hand, but at least I can type for a short time again with it...still hurts, especially if it gets bumped! B was so stressed out there it was just awful They werent able to take any blood samples, so its going to be hard to figure out what meds to even try He was sedated for the visit, as usual, but it didnt help. He's lost 4 lbs in 2.5 months

Oof, talk about biting the hand that feeds you, but I could see how he wasn't his normal self when it happened. I hope you are both on the mend and back to normal soon!

Thanks so much! Really appreciate it.... you are all so kind and caring... I dont think B is in pain (hope to God not) I forgot to mention he does get (and has gotten) narcotic strength pain pills every 8-12 hours for several weeks now. He was whining softly,but only once in a odd while, so my vet put him on some. Im just praying they can find some medicine to stop, or at least slow way down, the malabsorbtion so he quits losing weight. He still eats 2 cans of food a day and greets Tim at the door when he ges home....

Oh Gosh, I am sorry to know that B is having a tough time..so much so that he bit you. Boy, it just keeps coming for you ....hang in there. And I am glad that you are "spying" on us faithfully. Get better soon my friend.

Oh dear, I'm so sorry your doggy is losing weight and that you got bit. They don't realize what they're doing. I had to help a kitty out of my tree yesterday and was afraid of a bite myself. Please take good care of your hand; we won't forget about you while it heals. Meantime I'm praying they find out what's wrong with Biscuit.

Shoot, that is crummy! Healing thoughts to you both.

Dog bites can hurt like crazy. My mom got bit by a relative's dog on her shin - he adores her but got surprised when she came in the house, and bit before thinking - and she had a horrid bruise for the longest time. Hope that you take it easy on your hand. Neosporin with pain relief might be good to apply, too?

Did the vet have any ideas about what could possibly help Biscuit, or what's causing the malabsorption?

Will be thinking of you both.

Thank you all SO much! I cant tell you how much I appreciate all the kind wishes, both for me and B.Im so lucky to know you all and be part of this wonderful place! Im waiting to hear from the Vet about what meds, if any, they can try... she thinks he has some type of liver disease, or possibly, the cancer is back They cant know for sure, unless they do a MRI which they would need to put him under for and with his age and asthma/breathing problems, he may not survive the anesthesia :(Claire, how sweet of you to rescue the kittie! Be careful! Isabel, I adore you! Im very, very lucky to be your friend you nailed it and I havent told you nearly all thats going on Kari, so sorry to hear about your Mom getting bit! They are painful, for sure...it's been 5 days and I still cant straighten out or use my hand well I got a bone bruise on my leg from another dog yrs ago (it was trying to attack B, I was trying to block it) and it is still discolored and sore to the touch..... will let you all know what I find out...thanks for caring!

Oh! I'm so sorry, for you and for Biscuit. He must be feeling really poorly to do that. Rocky, sweet as he was, snapped at us a few times when he was ailing in his final months. One of the signs he wasn't doing well. Hugs to you both.

Thanks, Janet...sorry to hear about Rocky One thing that drives me crazy with B is one time (several minutes, hours) he looks SO bad and a while later, he's licking my leg, or greeting DH when he gets home, wanting a bone, etc....but we NEED to stop this weight loss,or Im afraid we'll lose him soon

It's good that he's showing excitement when you all come home, and that he's eating at least, but the malabsorption is worrying. How old is he? What kind of cancer did he have?

Rocky had a tumor in his leg, and we didn't even know it until his final days. We just saw him gradually slow down and have increasing trouble walking. But he was something like 17 years old, so we just figured he was getting older.

It's so heartbreaking that our pets have so much shorter lifespans than we do. We grow to love them so much. It's hard to see them age so quickly.

Amen B is 11.5 yrs old and most Shar Pei have a lifespan of 8-10 yrs, so we know we're on borrowed time.... he had a Mast Cell cancer tumor removed 3 yrs ago this month. It was on his side, in front of his back leg... you had Rocky for 17 yrs? That is great...Im sure he had a fabulous life with you..that's all we can do, is try and give them the best life we can....it's SO hard, no matter how old they are Ive had B since he was only 3 weeks old (he was being abused) and he's had a hard life, as far as surgeries (4) and many other health and a few emotional problems, but he's had all the love and attention we could possibly give...

Aw. Shar Pei's are sweet dogs. One of my best friends had one when we were growing up, her name was Susie Q :-).

Rocky was a rescue dog too, so we don't know for sure how old he was, but my husband got him before we met, and we met 15 years ago, so we've always assumed he was born in '95 or so. Pretty amazing he lived so long, since he was a fairly big dog (possible Akita/husky/shepherd mix, maybe some rottweiler?).

You're absolutely right that we give them the best we possibly can and hope for the best. I will be thinking of you and Biscuit and sending good thoughts. Give him a hug for me.
