Went by nordstrom to return the ombré skinnies and looked around but saw nothing at all I wanted! Pastels, florals, dots, and sadly lots of it in frumpy looking cuts. Maybe my budget will get a rest this season! The SA agreed with me (and this was in the expanded Savvy section!).

This season I'm going for more slouchy trousers (just ordered a new pair of x-overs from Zara), destroyed jeans (skinny, slouchy skinny, and bf from last year), and vests. Oh yes and big fashion sweatshirts. These are all on my list and I'm buying them up now while the supplies are there.

I'm trying to figure out where I stand color-wise. I like the pastels, but seeing mostly mint and not enough light pink/blush.

Hmm, I am loving this season - all the black and white, graphic and tuxedo styles, plus all the blues and greens, so many different jeans and covered flat shoes options. I also happen to like pastels (in moderation though) and dots.

Dude, I could take a snooze thru Spring, every time, and you know I can do cutesy. That is my least favorite season.

To be fair - Spring in stores has only just started - Feb is the first real retail month. What you saw before that is Resort Wear. We still have Mar, April, May and June to go - although June and July start showing the least good parts of the season in my opinion.

I just browsed through the Savvy department today too and had much the same reaction. However, I really liked the various vests they had. I bought the long Leigh field vest a few months ago and am loving it. The one you linked to is really cool too!

Everything is a little too 80's/early 90's for me. I like some of the floral jeans, but I am too old to wear them IMHO (I'm only 33, but they remind me of my junior high days, so to my eye they look better on teens/young adults). I like the blouse-y, flowy looking tops, though not necessarily on me, since I'm so short. I still like dolman sleeves and skinny jeans (as a late-adopter, I just wore a pair for the first time a few months ago). I don't really dig the slouchy-skinny look. Pastels look okay on others, but not on me. I will probably stick with more classic and tailored looks this spring, just like I usually do.

Why did you end up returning the skinnies, may I ask? The bagginess? I have to admit I was considering doing that, too. As much as I love them, I *had* told myself no more skinny jeans for this year.

And yes, I typically have a hard time with Spring and Summer. Like Zap, I feel this way every year... if you look at my closet, too, all the summer stuff is $1 stuff because I never get that inspired to part with $$ in the spring. I guess the one exception so far are the galaxy oxfords.

Granted I am not UWP but at my middle-aged lady store this week (Cleo, vs. the youth-oriented stores I otherwise shop at like H&M), I definitely felt like the spring pastels veer dangerously close to frumpy, when looking at more mature cuts etc. I mean mint green skinny jeans are clearly trendy but a pale pink cardigan can go either way if I'm not careful.

It may just be too early to tell as Angie says.
Here in Australia there is very little new season stuff around yet, and it is way too hot still to wear anything new anyway.
I understand the longing for fresh, tempting items though!

I am finding myself a more classic style with a touch of modern and a touch of feminine. I also recently discovered dresses! I have found quite a few pieces I like, but then I love aqua blue, teals, greens, etc.

I also love polka dots!

I am steering away from florals, though. And the cotton candy pink I see everywhere.

I have also been picking up a few lighter weight winter items to get me through to May.

I love florals so that works in my favour, but I definitely don't wear pastels. But it's early and I'm hopeful.

Una you have really long winters, I would be looking for winter items in fresh colors.

I have finally accepted the fact that we have two seasons in this part of California. It was John Muir who said it -- we have Spring and Summer here. So I actually like shopping for this season now, because I can wear every thing right away. Whereas all of my NAS things from July hung unworn until mid-November.

I said the same thing last week about the J. Crew February catalogue. Nothing in there appealed to me at all. Granted, part of that was because it was a pastel explosion, and pastels generally aren't my favourites, but even the styles were not to my taste -- everything looked boxy and shapeless, or had unappealing (to me at least) prints.

Not to worry. It will probably do us both good to give the bank account a chance to rest!

I am excited - colour always seems to be what stimulates my interest and I see a lot of brights and pastels (which I do like to wear). I like the tapered pants and blazers, longer tunic blouses and feminine dresses. And can't wait to break out the oxfords.

Yes, the catalogs have me feeling "eh" too.

Rae. I returned for a couple of reasons. They were not enough of a denim fabrication for me, and the stretching worried me. Plus I realized they weren't as exciting as I thought, and the sale price was what had motivated me Maybe I'm actually capable of learning!

As of this morning, I'm obsessed with these tapered jeans by G-Star. Some sites show a tighter fit, but I love the loose fit shown on the company website. Assuming they sized up for this.

I'm not excited by much I've seen either, although I'm going mainly from catalogs as I haven't been in the stores in a few weeks. Pastels are not my thing, unless they're mint green or those ocean colors, and I'm very picky about florals (nothing sweet). The shapes are not floating my boat either -- lots of cropped bottoms and shapeless tops. Oh well, maybe I'll save some money.

I'm with you, Una. So far I haven't been very excited by much, but like Janet I've mostly looked in catalogs. Pastels are terrible colors for me, so I won't be wearing those, and I'm not loving the baggy trousers (although my eye might still have to adjust) and uber 80's looks much either.

The past 24 months on YLF have been one long spending spree for me, and I've been feeling the need to slow down now that my wardrobe is in such great shape. So far, the spring trends are making this easy.

I am not digging the pastel trend but hopeful the jewel tones will return. I think orange will still be a big color and brighter emerald which I can do. Polka dots can be fine in limited doses (preferably more of an ironic dot than a sweet dot!) but I can see that they aren't UWP.
Time to enjoy what's in your closet?
