Not Missing the UPS Man at the Front Door

I haven't been on YLF as much lately and have actually taken an unplanned fashion shopping break this month that I may extend for a few months since I don't really have many needs. It actually feels very good not meeting the UPS man at the door every few days and not having to box up returns on a regular basis. Sure, I would love to find at least one more pair of comfortable daily shoes with some style, but I have enough shoes to suffice so that's really a "want," not a need. I have a lot of spring/summer clothing and may just need to add a few replacement basics (couple of tees, maybe one more pair of shorts) once the spring merchandise becomes available.

In lieu of fashion I've been focusing more on my latest hobby of learning to play guitar and singing. I spend about an hour a day practicing one or both - sometimes get together with other friends who also play instruments. We also improved our gym so I've been trying to use it at least 4-5 times a week. It's helping a shoulder issue to feel better but slow rehab takes time so I'm being patient.

Just thought I'd share since I sometimes wonder what happens to people when I don't see them posting much here. I do still enjoy browsing daily for at least a few minutes and have seen some really great outfits from those who have been posting WIWs.

Greg is a guitarist, and has 8 guitars. He plays every day, and a lot over the weekends.

Tex, relaxing into the whole fashion & style thing is the way to go.

My breaks from the forum are mostly for intensive work sessions and/or family stuff.

Glad to hear there are some other music fans on YLF. I think it's important to have multiple hobbies just to keep things interesting.

Nice to hear from you! I too think it's a good thing to vary one's interests and activities. I'm envious of both your home gym and your music time - I miss both in my life at the moment .

Thanks for popping in. Great that you are in a good place with clothes - after three January purchases I am not planning on any except running shoes for a couple of months. I am well set up for warm weather at the moment.

My online teachers tell me that *anyone* can learn to sing better if they choose to take the time to learn a few vocal exercises and practice regularly. I'm going with their wisdom but still practicing in the car and shower too.

I kind of come and go in spurts, too. Sometimes its health issues that keep me from actively participating, sometimes its spending a week with mom (like the last week of January); but I'm almost always passively lurking, at least.
And YES YES AND MORE YES to not having to keep track of what items haven't shipped yet, what has shipped, and where items are in the shipping pipeline. I think my last few items arrived while I was out of town, now I just gotta keep any more from heading this way

That's very thoughtful, and inspiring too. Having a fuller picture of a person makes their style expression that much more interesting to follow. It's so great to see the other things that people make time for too, no matter how busy they are, like Angie with the delicious food she posts on instagram.

I'm around in comments, but I haven't posted outfits in quite a while. Except for a new winter coat I haven't really purchased much. I've been meaning to do some outfit posts but I've just been lazy about it.

I love to hear about other people's hobbies. I have too many! My favorites are playing the keyboard, sewing, rubber stamping, embroidery, knitting, ...

I didn’t order anything in January. While I initially sort of missed that “thrill of the box”, I have to say now I don’t even think about it, after only a few weeks. Feels good.

So great to hear. I need to focus on my fitness and whilst participating on the forum is relaxing and fun (an alternative to watching TV or Netflix for me), the buying less and enjoying what I have is a strategy that I should adopt too.

Good to hear from you. This is a great place because you can participate as much or as little as you can and nobody will be offended. I also participate in spurs - sometimes life gets so busy that I can only manage to read titles in the forum.
My DH plays guitars both electric and acoustic and sometimes practices too much It is not easy to listen to the same song for hours LOL

I just got new tires on the car. I think I am going to see what it feels like to "not to miss the UPS man" for the month of February. But I don't play guitar! I'll have to find another distracting adventure.

So glad to hear your thoughts - it IS fun to hear about other people's hobbies and gain a better understanding of them (maybe) in the process.

Fashintern - I hope you do take up playing your recorder again.

Karie - I've missed seeing you here but love that you play keyboard.

anchie - I'm not the most "focused" so I play a very wide range of songs.
