Jules - exactly, flimsy fabric and lack of structure is what bothers me the most.
Angie - don’t you already have Club Monaco dress? I am somewhat disappointed with Boden spring offerings so far, but if you model those dresses for us, I may change my mind:)

I'm heading to the Middle East next month for a vacation so I've been on the hunt for dresses that cover both my shoulder and knees - and can handle the heat. I love wearing dresses, so they are always on my packing list. I have not been impressed with much out there right now. I'm not a huge fan of granny prints and a little apprehensive about wrap dresses for this trip in case I run into a gusset of wind:) Not only are the silhouettes flimsy but the fabric feels and looks like cheap polyester from the '70s. I think part of my problem is that the midi silhouette overwhelms me unless there is some definition. I have the added complication of requiring dresses to be packable - size of skirt and soft vs crisp. I've been looking at Ace & Jig, Miranda Bennett and Johnny Was. I think I'll give that Club Monaco dress a try - last year's version was much too heavy for my climate.

I’m delighted to see midi-length dresses are sticking around another season. But I, too, have ended up ruling a lot of them out for various reasons—wrong colors, prints I don’t care for, too-high side slits, etc. More than once I thought a dress would be great for work until I looked at the back view, which revealed a plunging rear neckline, leaving half or more of one’s back exposed. Gorgeous and alluring but not gonna fly at work.
