Not a Fan of Dresses?

I'm almost afraid to admit this, since I know YLF has a rather large roster for "team dress", but I've decided I don't really love dresses.

Now, I'm not saying I hate dresses. In fact, I wear a dress two or three times a week. I do think they look very flattering. I love that they are easy to throw on and simple to accessorize. You don't have to worry about PPL, shirt length...all those fun things.

But, like I said, I don't really love dresses. I find them to be super uncomfortable. I feel like I'm fidgeting all day long, making sure the skirt portion is laying nicely (especially after sitting or going to the bathroom!), keeping the skirt down on a windy day, fussing with the skirt portion when I sit down so it doesn't wrinkle or bunch up underneath me. It's just a lot of work!

Am I just a big baby about dresses or can anyone else sympathize with me?

I don't think your opinion is invalid Shell. I feel the same way wearing jeans now. I find them much more fussy and uncomfortable. Between the always too-short rise, digging waistband, pulling and whiskering across the hips and thighs (and I don't even have curvy hips and thighs), and constant adjusting when I sit and stand (not to mention weird crotch issues...) I have had it. It looks like you have the same issues in dresses. We're all different I guess.

I'm totally with you on that.

I do have a few dresses and I even wear them occasionally.I realize a good dress can be flattering. I'm just don't like wearing them that much, I feel like I can do so much more in pants. The biggest strike for me is I can't ride to work in a dress.

I know where you are coming from, Shell. I feel most comfortable in pants because I know I'm all covered. When I wear dresses I always worry about accidentally exposing too much. I am always paranoid about my skirt flying up or getting stuck somewhere, etc. I'm paranoid about stuff like that.

I have slowly worked my way into liking dresses but I totally know where you're coming from Shell. I feel most comfortable in dresses when I pair them with leggings just so I don't accidentally flash someone.

Thanks for the validation. I do like the idea of leggings, but it's been too warm to wear them lately. Maybe I'll change my tune in fall!

It's all in the style and fabric of the dress though. Details! The first picture you EVER posted here on YLF was of you in a BR wrap dress. We all did back flips because you looked so stunning. And you felt stunning too. Remember how excited you were?

Are you wearing mostly knit dresses Shell? I find that woven dresses have less need of fidgetting and stay in place better.

Don't you think it is all about the fit and fabric? I just bought a shirt dress today made from silk and it's so comfy and fits great. I'm taking back a similar style dress I bought at Target because it was inexpensive. I figure that if I am just going to have a few dresses better to have one that fits great, feels great, and spend more, than one that looks good but just feels ok because of the fit!

Yeah, I'm with you, Shell. I dip my toe in now and then, but I don't feel as fab in dresses. Give me a great pair of drapey pants any day!

Angie, I do love wearing the BR wrap dress, but it's one of my worst offenders! It is out of control on windy day

I have a variety of styles of dresses, from knits to wovens, sheaths to fit n flares, and they are all high maintenance. I'm wearing a sheath dress today w leggings and I'm still constantly adjusting the hem when I stand upor smoothing it down when I sit. I guess it just comes with the territory. :/ I do feel particularly fab today, so I can't hate on dresses too hard they're just annoying!

shell- I find that I have to wear a slip between a dress and leggings. That really helps keep the hemline of the dress in place. I know a slip sounds really old lady, but it works.

shell, I agree with you! I've tried SO many times through the years to love dresses, but I just don't feel like myself when wearing a dress! The only frock I own is a mod vintage 70's color block dress, which I rarely wear. I do wear skirts with tights in the fall. But most days I wear jeans and have built my entire wardrobe around denim. This approach works for both my personal style AND lifestyle.
