Here we are safe & sound in Santa Clara County when a fire started by a garbage truck dumped some trash caught fire not far from Porter Ranch and Granada Hills with the Santa Ana winds blowing.

We bought our first house in that area way back in the '70s. We lived just a few blocks south of the current mandatory evacuation area. My kids went to elementary schools there. Houses were still being built in Porter Ranch. This is the same area that was hit so hard by the 1994 Northridge earthquake.

I hope any of you in that area are safe now. I can't imagine that too many of the people I knew in that neighborhood way back when still live in the area. It's so sad that some people had to get out without time to get all of their pets with them.

Two years ago my sister and her husband, 3 dogs and a tenant evacuated their home just as they saw flames coming down the hill towards them. They found a place to stay for several days. The fire burned around their home, which wasn't harmed. This was in one of the Mendocino fires.

Stay safe everyone.
