Thought I would share - so the Nordstrom liquidation sale is here. I didn’t go but saw on the news just now that all stuff is on sale for whopping 5% off! Yes, 5%! Only a few things were 20% off, which I think were the leftovers from previous sales! Wow

Wow. I can't wait to save that 5%! At that rate, there will probably still be a lot of stock the next time I make it to Vancouver....at the end of April....

When they closed our local department store chain, the liquidation sale went on for 2-3 months, with the discounts stepping up over time, until it was worth a trip to dig through the rubble.

So….a little known retail fact, most liquidation like this are actually run by professionals liquidators. Ie people who’s entire portfolio is how to do this and actually make money. So…I don’t think this goes back to Nordstrom. Trust me, they know exactly what they are doing.

Kkard, I know how it works. But in the news they said they want to exit as soon as possible so I expected a different start

Lol I indeed! You’re so right Helena - I especially love it when they hype up Black Friday as some big event, then it’s like ‘20% off our existing sale items which have been sitting here unsold for months already, plus this side category we barely stock’ (eg. purses at a shoe store).

I’m actually relieved Irina, I thought you were going to post something tempting - which I can’t afford right now with travel bills to pay

Jules, I think by the time the discounts are significant, the interesting (to me) things will be gone. But I probably will check it out at some point anyway. Most of my Marimekko garments came from there.

I used to know a family whose business it was to liquidate businesses. He would customarily move to wherever the retailer was based for a few months and she would be giddy with delight on the occasion this might involve such as the AAAAA width shoes she needed.

I went to the Vancouver store yesterday and although they say "up to 20% off", the only thing I saw at 20 was pajamas (strangely). I was surprised that even luxury brands you don't usually see discounted, were included.

Lol this sounds like Hong Kong sales. I remember being so excited when I first got here, regularly seeing numbers like '90' emblazoned on huge shop signs - only to later find out that means the goods are now 90% of their original price (in other words, only 10% off) -_- lol!
