Nordstrom Closing.

Nordstrom is closing its Sacramento Calif store permanently. The Roseville Calif store will not have any changes. Apparently 11 stores will be closing.

I just discovered that my closest store will be closing for good. The next closest ones, in Columbia and Towson, are each about 45 min away, so would only be planned trips, never impulse drop-ins. Good, I suppose, for my spending. Not good for the employees of the store, some of whom I have come to know and like over the years. Very sad. The Annapolis mall will be a ghost town.

The Broomfield CO store is in a mall, I think. If it is the one I think it is, I am not surprised. It has had very little merchandise and is usually empty. I do feel for the employees. There are 2 Nordstrom Racks near and they are usually busy. I am not liking their on-line store. Yesterday I got an email coupon/ code for % off purchase. I also should have had free shipping. I was charged for shipping and the % was not taken off. I called and was on hold for 4 hours, 38 minutes, only to get disconnected when someone did answer.

Will they be closing Rack stores as well? I'm surprised about Sacramento, but admit I haven't been in that city for years. I do drive through Roseville to see family in Rocklin. I don't think either of our local stores will close soon, but I admit it's not as fun to shop at either one as it used to be.

It’s sad. It seems crazy to me that the state’s capital Nordstrom is unsustainable.

The rent in Annapolis was probably the reason. Guessing it's much higher than Columbia.

Yeah, this news made me sad. Another indication of the end of an era. I’m trying not to think that this is only the first small drop in a coming deluge of closings, and yet... I’m not feeling optimistic about the future state of retail or business, or much else in the US at this point. Ugh, that sounds bleak, sorry.

Business Insider says that Nordstrom is closing 16 locations and they're all "full-line locations, which are the multifloor department stores that carry its entire assortment of products."

Deb, I imagine that the Roseville store drained off a lot of business from the Sacramento store. I went to Arden Fair once or twice, but it seemed like parking was a problem. Maybe it was Christmas time, I don’t remember.

I take my mother to the Marin store. They used to have someone playing the piano, but not anymore. The last time we were there, they had very few things for her. She has plenty of money, and just wants some nice wearable clothes.

Janet, I used to return Nordstrom purchases to the Rack, but then on a receipt it specifically excluded that option. Maybe they’ve changed back. Returning items by mail takes forever.

JAileen, the Rack here always accepted returns from Nordstrom even when the official policy was otherwise. Once Nordstrom finally opened here, the Rack specifically had signage up saying they would accept those returns. I could also order online Nordstrom orders and have them delivered to the Rack (along with a number of smaller store fronts called Nordstrom Local). Don't know if that's just an NYC thing or not.

Yes, I have been able to take Nordstrom returns to the Rack (which is a closer store for me) but I’m wondering if they will change the policy again. I show them the order on my phone app so they can scan it in since I often get orders mailed without a receipt/invoice. They can’t look orders up otherwise.

It's all very sad. Terrible news for the economy and fashion industry.

Em, sad to say I’m not surprised — that location has been looking sparse in goods and in customers for the last year or so. I’ve been worried about that store.

Not much left there. Department stores are now down to Macy’s and JCPenney, and a Sears that has been gasping for life for years now. The Banana Republic and Gap closed in the last several months. There’s Sephora, Lululemon and Zara, and WH/BM. Ann Taylor and Loft are still there. And lots of junior type stores. The second food court area they built with the extension a few years ago has dwindled down to nothing.

The Roseville Galleria was my Nordie store when I lived in Roseville ! I remember when that Mall opened. I’m glad it’s staying open.
The other a Nordies that is closing is in the Arden Mall. I’m not surprised it’s closing. I wonder if that mall will come back at all. They have lots of problems at that mall!

They have closed Sunrise Mall , Birdcage Mall and Country Club Mall in Sacramento.

Roseville is booming though. I miss it terribly . They have lots of high end stores in Galleria Mall and people shop them. Burberry , LV , Tiffany . It’s a very busy place !
