Nordstrom Black Satin Trench Coat - Possible Buy

Hello everyone!

I've been shopping for my college wardrobe and trying to take advantage of some sales. I am in need of a black trench coat and wanted all of your opinions on this:

I like the color black as a basic because of its versatility.

What do YOU think? Should I buy it or should I pass? Or should I wait until the Anniversary Sale (what if it's gone)?

Hello! I’m not sure what's appropriate for US college because I did not school here, but that’s a pretty trench provided it fits. The price is good too.

If you are short and busty, I'd hold out for something that is single breasted with a smaller revere collar. Hope I’ve helped.

I'm 5'8" and B size in the chest area.

I didn't know if it was too much money, but if you say the price is good then that's great!

Is this coat good for waist definition?
Also, should any skirts be shorter than the coat's hem or can a little bit peek out? I tend to wear skirt midway or right below my knee...

You should get some waist definition from the belt and it appears to be a good cut (not boxy).
On the length - it says 41 inches from shoulder to bottom. Perhaps you could measure your shoulder to knee area and see how long you are? Then you'll have an idea about the skirts. A bit peeking would be ok but you also don't seem to want a "car coat" length otherwise it will just look wrong.

Sorry about that old fashioned term - it is a coat that comes mid thigh. I think you want a classic trench that comes to nearly/at knee length? So my suggestion was to take your measurement from shoulder to knee so you get what you want. Hope that helps

Would this hypothetical outfit work:

Right above-the-knee trench coat worn over a skirt that is right below-the-knee with black tights and black knee high boots?

Is that too many horizontal lines or does it have potential?
