Nordies Sale but not NAS K/R

A couple of weeks ago, as i preshopping NAS i also looked thru the “regular” sales items on the Nordstrom’s site. There were a couple of things i was specifically looking for, and then just a couple of vague ideas about what i might want/need as WFH transitions to 3 days in office…
What i was looking for..white closed toe shoes…looking for something that works without a pedicure, hoped for something that would work from May-September…ordered both of these finds…the Frye pair were to large…the Ganni are slighly outside of my comfort zone, so looking for some feedback…i like my footwear to last for years, do you think these are too trendy and will look dated/of a time next summer or the summer after next? Are they too heavy looking for high summer? Do you actually think i could wear these in Oct and Nov?

The sweater will replace another cashmere striped sweater that do to pilling will be down graded to weekends/WFH only….this sweater just speaks to me…brighter and in colors that aren’t in my usual palette but i was looking at this sweater for 3 weeks, and when it sold out in my size was bummed, but then it popped back and i hit buy now ASAP…

Interesting shoes ! I don’t think they are trendy at all - nor will they look dated quickly . They are more in the avant grade category if anything . They are pretty cool - but is this a look you are after ? I think you’d want the rest of the outfit to support them -like an architectural top or jacket of some sort .

I’m completely biased, because I love chunky soles and interesting heel shapes. And, the sweater is gorgeous. Definitely a bit brighter than your usual colors, but that can be fun. Would you wear it with a jacket? I’d be a “keep” for both.

Lisap interesting that they read avant-garde. That’s not really me, or what was going for. I ordered them because I thought they would bring an elevated more look but still have a classic base. You’ve given me something to think about.

I’m with @lisap. Your preppy soul is exhibiting its edge. I love that the shoes can dress up jeans and a tee or balance a dark toned outfit. The dark heel adds a visual “solidness”

Love the shoes- can you walk easy in them -is the sole a hard or flexible ribber-so makes noise or not-anyway the're very edgy!-Keep! Love the sweater and white jeans, too!

Wow the Gianni are beyond awesome. They could make any outfit - reading edgy, classic, elegant and interesting. Unique but quiet if that makes sense. Definitely elevate anything you put with them but so refined that they could mix with anything. Love!! Hope you keep b

More love for the edgy prepster shoes. They totally look like you—elevated polish. I could never resist a rainbow sweater so that’s an obvious keep. Way more polished than my gap version. Sooo fun!

The Gianni shoes are definitely more eye-catching so I think you need to like the look of them with an outfit better than the Frye shoes with that same outfit. In my experience stretching a comfort zone usually works best when it’s the wearer who gets excited by moving into a different style.

Given that criteria, and since you like to keep your purchases for several years, I’d say a definite yes to the sweater based on your unequivocal “I like it! ” response—but maybe a bit more reflection if the Gianni vibe is a direction which YOU would be happy exploring for the next year or two. In other words, are you really looking for that particular kind of “edgy”…or something else?

Gaylene —yes, exactly i need to figure out where I’m comfortable going. As i had mentioned on another post a couple of weeks ago, after 16 months of going no where, I’m finding I’m having some trouble with my inner voice…part of me is comfortable not moving at all, but the other part knows that I have to keep moving…and i find that this forum helps me to put a voice to what I’m feeling and points me in a direction.

The Gannis strike me as classic with a twist. I don't think they are trendy per se so much as unique. Striped sweater is fab of course.

That sweater is subLIME on you. The lime color just reaches out past all the rest and is great for you.

I got some lug-soled shoes this past winter and have been happy with them. I tossed them in with a different order on a whim, thought they were crazy town but I might as well try. They turned out to be the only keepers. Once I put them on, I was surprised how the lug sole didn’t seem nearly so big or obtrusive. It’s the same with yours. They are great classic loafers with the black sole that’s been around for a couple years. When I saw the shoe off your foot in the finds, I did a double-take, because that picture is taken at an angle that kind of highlights the sole.

As for them being “dated” in a year or two—do you mean according to what people are wearing or according to what’s being shown? Given how many have been bought, they can’t all disappear within the next year, but who know what stores will be trying to sell. My guess is that lugmania will settle down and they will stay around, sort of like skinny pants that we thought were just a trend.

I think the lug sole will,be around for a while yet, and the shoe you are showing is just classic enough that it will transcend trends. The black sole makes it season-less (IMO). It looks nice on your foot. Is it heavy? Can you walk comfortably in it?

The sweater is a ‘win’. Period. It would be fun to go matchy matchy with a pair of trousers or a skirt in one of the stripe colours (orange?)

Love, love Ganni shoes on you. It is a classic style with a modern twist. I don’t know if light colored shoes would last years in one’s closet, it would depend on how often they are worn. Generally speaking, I think trendy shoes would not look dated for at least 3 years.

Hmm. Ok. I’m analysing the Ganni more now: I see them as sassy preppy. Preppy with a touch of pretty. A little sass or a little pretty are also very preppy things to do. On the other hand, there’s salt-of-the-earth preppy and they’re not that.

I find the Ganni shoes interesting, but do think they would be too heavy for high summer. Like me, I wonder if you have quite a lot of shoes? Which reduces the PUPY value…( Suntiger’s term- Potential Uses Per Year). And then, in say 3 years, might you be “over” them?

To my eye, the Ganni look preppy-classic with a modern, avante grade twist which turn them into statements. I love them, and if they fit and are comfortable I think they would be a great addition to your footwear collection. I’m not sure they are timeless since they are statements, which can become stale. The sweater is an obvious keep. It’s also preppy/classic with a twist….the stripes and colors are truly fab.

JenniNZ—yup my PUPY value will potentially be low, i tend to reach for some pairs a lot in the “early years” and then less in the later years, and then some shoes years on, cycle back into high rotation.

I guess what i want to make sure is that these are like the square toe sandals, which IMO if you wear next summer will look “so 20/21”, not that wont be ok to wear, but at least in my eye are so tied in time to a specific year. But i think this are, as some have pointed out more avant-garde grade so kind of fall into a different category

Tried these on again this morning, they are comfortable and aren’t as heavy as they look…I’m going to put these in the keep pile, but if I don’t wear them in the next couple of weeks, will reevaluate
the sweater has already moved into the keep pile!

Thank you all for allowing me to ponder and think about this “out loud”…as always you’ve helped me to pin point and narrow my thoughts. This has really helped me.

I love the shoes — I am a fan of shoes like this that are a classic style but with a modern twist that makes them a bit more “edgy” for lack of a better word.

I also like the sweater on you. Yes, it feels a little different from your usual palette, but it’s a fun change when you feel it, and it suits you well.

I like the look of the loafers and think you can definitely pull them off. I agree that they are more avant garde or edgy and not trendy in a way that will date quickly. Chunky loafers seem still very much in style, to me, and they've been around for lots of seasons. The sole on these gives them a more cosmopolitan vibe than the utilitarian lug sole that is more common. In that way, they strike me as a chunky loafer that is very much up your alley style-wise. I do think they will work well into fall, with the dark sole.

I think they will work well with lots of jeans. I can envsion them with a fairly sleek or traditional suiting type of look. I also would like to see them with skirts or dresses. What about with your red print dress?
