NOOO! This is why I can't buy things at full price!

The Limited skirt I bought for $60 is now on sale for $36! (http://www.thelimited.com/deta.....rt/7476413) Luckily, I can take it into the store with the price tag and receipt and they will do a price adjustment (I frantically called and checked).

Lessons learned:
- keep receipts and don't cut tags (or at least keep them if you cut them)
- call the physical store, much more helpful than the online customer service
- just WAIT. no matter how much I love it, it will probably still be there in a week and will be on sale very soon.

That's a girl after my own frugal heart!
In fact, if you are extra practical, carry the receipts with you for a couple weeks (covers most price adjustment periods) and when you're out shopping and see it for less, you can do it without making a second trip.

Price adjusting is a wonderful thing. So much better than waiting too long and finding your size has sold out.

That's fantastic that you will get a price adjustment, Kate. There are some things (most) that I am willing to wait for until it goes on sale (or in some cases, even MORE on sale) both every once in a while I'm willing to splurge if I'm positive I will regret missing out on the item if it goes out of stock before I have a chance to buy it.

I'm very loyal to stores (like Ann Taylor/Ann Taylor Loft and especially Nordstrom) that are very generous about price adjustments and make the process easy.

A couple years ago I got a dress on sale at AT, and then the week after the price went down even further by $30. I brought the dress in with tags on & receipt to get a price adjustment, and the AT staff members let me know that in the future, I only needed to bring the receipt in, and didn't have to haul the dress back too.

Nordstrom is even better, especially for online orders. A few months ago I had a price adjustment for an online order processed in 5 minutes through the live chat function, without ever having to pick up the phone. Super easy, and I had written confirmation that the adjustment had gone through! http://about.nordstrom.com/help/livehelp/

I'm with you up until the last point. If you really love something, you should be willing to pay the full price as opposed to waiting and missing out. If you're ok with missing out, then you probably don't love it that much.

I agree with you, Kate. Working in retail has taught me that EVERYTHING goes on sale eventually. And with stores like Nordstrom, it's extremely easy to hunt down the item, even if your local store is sold out.

Thus... I usually only buy on sale, too. Sometimes I will pay full price, but it's rare these days.

I'd say the takeaway there is: pay full price if the vendor has a price-adjustment policy.

I'm glad you are getting a price adjustment. I've lost out on too many items by waiting that I hesitate to wait for a sale. If I want something bad enough and can afford it, I buy it. Recently I waited on a trenchcoat and it sold out before the company was ready to ship it! Sheesh. There won't be a sale on that one. LOL

Maya, I do hate the feeling of something getting away, but I have yet to have an item I love sell out completely before going on sale (even if it goes very quickly once on sale). There have been more times that I've swallowed sadness because my impatience just cost me $20-30. I've also found that most things that are sold out online are still in my local stores, which might just be a benefit of Tucson being so absurdly casual that nobody buys dresses or skirts or anything remotely "fancy".

Things worked out fine in the end, but I would have much rather not spent that hour going to the mall to sort it all out. The lady at the counter at The Limited was the one who processed my return on Saturday, and she asked if I worked at the mall. Apparently most of the people who go to the store every other day work at the mall

I also usually buy on sale, unless it's something I'm very very in love with and worried about my size selling out. . .

For The Limited the time frame is 14 days (within purchase, not within when the online order arrives at your house). I think for some stores it might be longer...

Don't wait too long...unless you're willing to see it go! In most cases I am OK with waiting and taking my chances, but once in a while I find something I'm not willing to take a chance on.
