Non-tapered ankle pants - oh my!

Love that link to style.com that Angie posted today, I have been gawping at all the FW2014 collections. Being as they are in the pret-a-porter category, a gal can dream of perhaps even wearing them! But check out these pants. They are rule-breakers, but I think this look is alright, somewhat balanced with the boxy jacket. Any thoughts?

I sort of LOVE these. I've been worried about the idea of wide and cropped -- just not sure at all about how that will work. But I think the sharp tailoring of these, along with the boxiness up top, somehow makes these work.

I love these pants!!! I suspect you you have to be super slim with long legs to pull them off though.

There are a lot of these wider leg pants in the fall styles. I think these are a bit too wide a the cuffs make them more non workable. Probably only work with heels and so probably will not see them worn by many. Look too strange to be worn with booties, or anything except the heels on the model.

Oh...these pants would not work for me. And I couldn't wear them with heels anyway (due to constant winter). I do think the boxy jacket helps to balance these (along with the footwear) -- but it's a tough look for most to wear, I expect.

The only way I would wear this style is with fitted mid calf boots that elongate the leg line. But I am short and you are tall!

True, Una, Suz and fuzzy, it is a bit of a leg-shortening look. Here's another example from Rag and Bone, with booties, although they are a bit tapered. By the way, lots of red in their collection, also in Helmut Lang FW2014.

The first picture is cool but total fashion fantasy world for me, starting with the heels which I can't wear. So I can't even begin to analyse its practicality for myself.
The second, I thought looked ok, until I realized - she's a model, and her legs don't look a mile long. They look... OK. So while I don't mind the look, I suspect it would be leg shortening on me.

Well, thanks for letting me know what's coming. Any kind of cropped pant, even if properly tapered, worn with matching footwear, etc., is just really hard for me at 5'4". I love trends, but this continues to be the most challenging style for me to work around. That and skinny jeans, which as a pear, I still feel take some wrangling to make work on my frame.

I'm barely 5'2"...I have a pair of black trousers very much like those in pic #1 (from maybe 2008?), including cuffs, that I sometimes wear over tall black boots (not classic or shiny ones but my "cyberpunk" Timberlands). So the leg line is continued and it works OK, I think. (I don't do pumps, generally--they don't stay on, they make my feet so visually small that they just look wrong, and ya know, that's fine, 'cause they don't suit my taste, style, or lifestyle anyway.)

I have 3 pairs of cropped pants in total and I don't plan to add any more of this length to my closet. It's not new-fresh-interesting-flattering enough for *me* to bother with again, so I'll sit this round out. I am sooo OK with that.

ambergreen, I like the way you describe wearing them with tougher taller boots, that's what I'd do too. Kind of a retro aviator look.

I think they look ok on super leggy people, but a tapered leg looks so much better, imo. I do have a poisoned eye for non-tapered crops, though

Don't tell Angie but I bought a pair of wide-legged cropped pants for our summer & have worn them to death Like I said on Angie's post, maybe I'm delusional, but I love them

Ambergreen, exactly! The boot has to be tall and fitted enough to go under the cuff, keeping a long line.

A boxy jacket AND wide short pants together are a petite's recipe for disaster, imho.

I soooooo hope culottes never make their way back into fashion rotation. Worst. look. ever... on short/petite people!

I love wide legged pants that are full length, though. Super slimming with a nice heel, but they need to be close to dusting the floor in length to get that effect on my tiny-lil-peanut-self.

Now that I think would be flattering on many people. Except the ties hanging down remind me of a prayer shawl which is a bit unusual with the rest of the look.

I'm on the way to having an apoplexy. But the crisp lines of the outfit have kept me upright.

Shorten these a few inches and I'd wear them. I love culottes.

And Anna your cropped pants are very tapered, which is flattering.
