My style hasn't been super successful this year, but I am accomplishing some other things

1. My garage Finally has Light!! We just had new LED fixtures put in today- so I can finally get more of the decluttering done.
2. I've been consigning and giving away A Lot- including some big things. I finally took a few of my unused instruments to the music store to sell. I've been more realistic about what I'm really going to use going forward.
3. I've gotten quite a lot of writing done on two novels I'm working on, and submitted them to my writers group for feedback.
4. With the help of my new snorkel, I've been swimming in ways besides backstroke- crawl, breaststroke, mermaid. Most days I swim I do 60 laps- half backstroke and half everything else.
5. I've managed to sustain working just part time (about 30 hours a week) for a whole year now- And been firm about my days off

Anyone else have non style successes this year?

Wow! Just wow! Your making me feel like I’ve not done anything this year…
Seriously, my biggest accomplishment this year is something I didn’t do- kill my new boss! But, there are still 5 months left. LOL.

That is fantastic! Working on two novels sounds like a remarkable achievement.
I have wanted to do Yoga Teacher Training for my self-development since I retired 12 years ago. I did an online 200-hour program in February, so I now have a YTT certificate. I don't plan to teach now, but I may. I have signed up for the 300-hour program.
I am doing French lessons with Duolingo. Both my sisters, brother-in-law, and niece are doing them. I took French for six years in school but have never been that fluent. My accent has improved a lot. We go to Quebec almost yearly, so I hope to practice there.

The books aren't that impressive Style Fan. One I've had in my head since I was a teen, and have a lot of random scenes written. It's more a matter of connecting it all.
Thought about yoga teacher training, but don't have the time for it. What style(s) are you doing?
I did a lot of Duolingo during the pandemic, and when I was bored in the office. It got too repetitive and I hated typing into the phone, so didn't renew subscription.

Tbh, my life is a blur, lol. I did tho finish watching all four seasons of Killing Eve, which my best friend put on a thumbdrive for me last December… and you know, he was *like* every week for eight months asking if I’d finished it Lol!

I still feel very proud tho that I’ve learned enough Mandarin to understand people arguing at Ranch 99 supermarket from watching Chinese tv dramas… what I was watching instead of Killing Eve… eek!

Wow! Great achievements! I'd be tickled pink if I did that much.

I hear you on the lights! When we finally got lights in the basement it was awesome. That space is now lit up like a fairground with cool LED lights. Best thing EVER!

My husband and I started learning German with Duo Lingo halfway through the pandemic, and ended up loving it. Because we like to travel in Germany we've kept on, going deeper into the grammar. We also watch a lot of German TV, plus German language stuff on YouTube, so it's really been a lot of fun. Now I need to polish up my French, which I actually majored in in college, but haven't used in decades.

I was sooo happy when I first saw the lights! The old fixtures were florescent, and barely worked at all. I would just have to keep the garage doors open to work in there.
German seems hard- at least compared to Latin languages to me!

Ha to this being a lot! I feel like I've barely had time to do anything this summer, though I cram in as much as I'm able. Once winter sets in, I basically do nothing but work, sleep, and read.

Wow, lots of progress! Doesn’t light make a HUGE difference! As part of our big renovation project, we had new lights installed in our garage (the old ones were woefully inadequate), and it’s still a bit of a revelation every time we flip the switch. We are also getting the garage floor repainted because it took such a beating with the construction.

So really I feel like the only thing I’ve accomplished this year is getting through that massive renovation project. And without any knock-down drag-out fights with my husband! (Last year we had one fight in the appliance store, but quickly apologized and have worked through all other issues since then with no big disagreement — no small feat!) I really can’t think of anything else I have accomplished in the last eight months, how sad is that? LOL

OK, after a moment of thought, my other successes would be:

- reaching level two in Pilates, since I’ve maintained a good 2x a week routine (vacations aside)

- losing a few unwanted pounds (still more to go, and I slid back a little while on vacation)

- weaning myself a bit off of so much screen/streaming time and reading more actual books

- returning to some places I’ve wanted to revisit after many years. Death Valley in the spring, and more recently the Swiss alps and Paris. I’m so thankful to be able to do this traveling again!

- planning an upcoming trip with my BFF to the desert southwest — she hasn’t been to a lot of the locations I’ve visited multiple times, so I’m so happy I’m able to put together a trip to show her the sights!

- visited my sister several states away for a post-Christmas holiday celebration. I hadn’t been down to visit her in many years, and was so happy that my niece and I could both make that trip to celebrate together, for the first time in a very long time.

Your reno is way more than mine! Sounds like it's been very disruptive. Poor doggies prob haven't been happy either :/ Is it mostly done now?

Eventually we want to do more in the garage- fix a torn spot in the ceiling, add a loft, and put a real floor (it's just gravel)- but there's still So Much stuff in there. Plus we'll build a new house on our land- cause ours is just an old modular. But we have stuff to pay off before that, and I want to buy the woods behind our house to prevent development first!

Our reno was very large. We are still finishing final touches (ie, painter has been here today for some touchups), but all the important stuff is done. Furniture is back in, art is back on walls, kitchen fully functional! In fact, I’m sitting at the dining table right now eating lunch, and this is my view into the kitchen and the front yard through our new kitchen window, complete with new bird feeder! It’s a huge treat is have such a nice new space to cook, eat, and relax in.

Janet, your kitchen is GORGEOUS!! Congratulations!!

This year has been kind of a blur so far and I can't believe it's already mid-August!

I did do a pretty big closet clean-out just this past weekend, so there's that. Let's see, what else?

Helped my husband close his law office (lease was up and he's retirement age so didn't want to renew it) and move his last few cases home, and threw a really nice sit-down office-closing dinner party for 24 at our house.

Took two big trips (Vietnam in January and Greece/Denmark in June) and three small trips (train trip to San Francisco in March, road trip to Palm Springs in April, weekend in Las Vegas in May).

Joined our local Showcase House for the Arts charity and this year I'm a committee chair already.

Replaced our antique, falling-apart dining room chairs.

Took a week-long course in mediation in preparation for opening a mediation practice with my husband after I retire.

And the biggest news: I put in my retirement papers! Last day of work is September 15, I'm throwing myself a big party on September 13, and on September 19 we are starting a big train trip across Canada from Vancouver to Halifax! YAY!!

MsMary, you win most productive, fun, busy, and biggest changes of the year! WOW!

We are having a good year. After 4 bad years for our families, it's very welcome.

We completely decluttered and edited our homes and lives the first three months of the year. Every drawer, surface, closet, storage area, and box was edited, reviewed and organized. That includes our admin in three countries. It is an INCREDIBLE feeling!

We re-decorated a bit to tide us over before we remodel extensively. New rug, office chairs, bookcase, and small things like that. It's helped!

Working very closely with architects and contractors to get this huge loft remodel off the ground. Hopefully even this year! There are major challenges to resolve, which has been tedious and tricky.

Headed to Michigan for 10 days to see friends in the Spring. Headed to Greece in Sept. Joined Greg on a couple of his work trips and functions. Have our dearest friends visiting from South Africa at the end of the year, and we are planning their 2.5 week vacation. Lots to look forward to!

Had some YLF and work goals to achieve - and am thrilled with the results!

Suntiger, I practice Vinyasa and Ashtanga Yoga. During the pandemic, Mr. SF turned the garage into a yoga studio. He put in a floor and heaters so he could do hot yoga. It is lovely to have that space set aside for our practice.

Well, less than I hoped - I kept all my sporting activities, missing only a few yoga classes this summer due to the scheduling conflicts. Hope that class will move from Saturday to a weekday comes fall. I should be 4 days a week in a gym but mostly manage only 3. My swimming is better but it’s a slow progress.

Our reno got canceled. I still haven’t taken vacations this year. Very tired. On a positive side, I started selling clothes online. It’s a lot of work but it makes me feel better to re-home it instead of donating. I keep money for future second hand purchases as I’m switching my shopping strategy.

Oh, my - such productivity! Let's see if I can list things that I or we finally completed.

Poolhouse renovation that was in the planning stages when we hosted my brother's wedding (2021) got completed last fall and a poolside pergola with sunshade was installed. This all occurred after the pool was closed for the season, thus the designer who helped us did not get her "after" photos. She finally did, back in early July. YAY.

We started Swedish Death Cleaning in earnest. YAY.

Handyperson is coming today to estimate jobs including hanging art and removing a few broken outdoor eyesores that we, naturally, have stopped seeing. YAY.

The library re-org is just about complete (will be after handyperson hangs art). YAY.

Our first grandniece, for whom I had promised to hand-make birth announcements, arrived early, shortening my timeline considerably. Cards are now made, mailed, and received in one piece despite being mailed into the inferno of Arizona and involving several different kinds of adhesives. YAY.

We completed our roof and gutter replacements AND reinstalled the [rodent] exclusion system at the eaves and around the foundation. YAY.

Mr. A successfully installed a new meadow in part of the front yard. YAY.

Hmm…. Got an Apple watch and set it to remind me to do the things various docs have suggested, like getting up and moving around every hour. Downloaded a meditation app but have not opened it yet. Researched how to implement a Mediterranean diet and have been making progress on more closely tracking it.
