I had a gap between picking up kids so I stopped in at Meltz, which is a store that sells a mishmash of branded and non branded items at discount prices. I really want a blazer, and I thought they might have something. They didn't. Which is odd because blazers are in all the shops at the moment.

Now in theory, I don't actually want to be spending money on clothes. It's a week until payday and I am trying desperately to save so that I have money in reserve for when I become a full time self employed doula later in the year. Some of the money I have thus far in savings was originally put aside for my new, thinner wardrobe, so I shouldn't feel too guilty spending some money on clothes.

I browsed for some other items from the shopping list I have been creating, but found nothing I liked. I did however find a chocolate brown maxi dress in the softest fabric, that looked so pretty. It had spaghetti straps and a copper brown sequin detail on top (and I definitely do not like shiny sequinny things but these did not offend my eye for some reason). The dress was about 3 inches too long though, so I would have had to shorten it before I could wear it. It was going for a steal and I wondered around with it in my hands but at the last minute left the shop without it.

Not sure whether I was strong or silly... I find it really hard to find clothes that fit and flatter, which this dress did, but at the same time, I am trying to find some more focus in my wardrobe and style and although this dress could qualify as rather boho, it wasn't on my shopping list and I though that the money I would spend, though minimal could be spent on something else more important in this last week before payday.

Anyway, I am home now and still wondering whether I shoulda bought the dress!

So - what are your self imposed shopping rules?
