Nobody wants my orphans!

I felt a pang today when I went into the consignment shop and saw a bunch of my clothes hanging there unsold!
Potential reasons:
1. I have crappy taste (although these are my "pass on" items)
2. Not too much demand for tall/larger sizes (12-14)
3. I have consigned so many items (about 50 pieces in last 6 months), that all I see are the unsold ones, there are probably a lot I have sold already

Anyway, going to do another closet purge and try to sell a bunch more stuff! At worst, if they don't sell, they will be donated.

That IS a weird feeling, isn't it? It's happened to me, too, occasionally, and I must say I feel very odd when I see a really nice item not selling when a lot of stuff from Gap flies out of the store. And it's not that they price the nicer items too high at my store. The woman who runs the place doesn't even really recognize higher quality stuff. She just knows what her clients might buy.

Ah well, as you say, it is all for a good cause if it gets donated.

And you can always take it back and offer it to YLF!

I just had to pick up a pair of Prada shoes from spring 2011 from the consignment store that did not sell. I feel your pain.

I've had that experience on eBay, with clothes and other stuff too. I recently sold a few exercise DVD's for over $100 -- baffling because the buyer could have gotten them new much cheaper. I was hoping to make $20! But then a beautiful silk blouse is ignored. Who knows.

I think it's all the timing. The right person looking for that particular garment. I sell on Ebay and I can have a beautiful dress on for a week with no interest. I can relist it two weeks later and sell it for way more than I expected:) Just be patient. Maybe have a go at ebaying the items yourself, you would be reaching a wider group of consumers.

Yes, Ebay reaches more consumers, all it means is that the right person didn't walk through the consignment store doors during the consignment period. As a previous consignment store owner I can tell you it's rare that every item sells, unless you are bringing one or two at a time..
