I absolutely want us to remain tactful and respectful when we do not agree. 100%! As you know, all perspectives are welcome but there is zero tolerance for rudeness on YLF.

I really don’t want us to get our knickers in a knot about everybody’s word sensitivities. There are FAR too many and that thought alone makes things really stressful. This is a supportive, effective and upbeat community. No need to complicate matters by walking on egg shells. By all means use the descriptive words and expressions that you are used to using. Feel free to use words like tacky, sexy, crotch, pop of colour, snack, cute, trendy, cheap, classy, beautiful – and the rest of it. I hope that makes everyone feel better!

you're the best... I took the "tacky" post and others like it in good clean fun but I know that it does make people wonder what is okay to say and what isn't.

Angie, you're really causing problems for me. I've been hard at work on some special software for the forum that would screen for forbidden words like [CENSORED], [CENSORED], and [CENSORED] and replace them with a simple indication that they've been censored. In addition, there would be an additional member badge of shame that would be "earned" by anyone who uses more than 5 forbidden words in 30 days - this badge would appear as a red circle with a slash through it over the profile picture of that member. I was really looking forward to a warm reception for this wonderful new software! Now what am I going to do?

: ) Rosie - in one of my past jobs, people would always say things like, "This is a very sexy idea," or "That was a very sexy presentation..." and it never, ever had anything to do with sexual or even gender issues. It always made me smile (especially since no one else seemed to think it was in the least bit unusual or funny) and definitely if I had ever been inclined to dislike the word sexy, that job would have changed my mind. I wonder if your math professor made you feel the same way about that word.

PS - Miss BethW I have to take you to task on that comment about sexiness - my hubby is a statistician and he is *very* sexy to me! <tee-hee> (Oh, ok, I admit it, when I have trouble sleeping I say to him "tell me about work honey" and I can guarantee I'm sleepy within about two minutes. Still, if anyone could make it sexy, he could!)
