No buy July mid-month check in

So we are more than half way done with no-buy July! How is everyone doing?

I must confess that I have technically caved - I was at a thrift shop with a girl friend yesterday and found a beautiful brown paisley silk scarf that I couldn't resist. But given that it cost a grand total of 72 cents, I'm hoping you all will agree to look the other way.

Have to say purchases less than a dollar could be ignored! I just read how brown in back, good timing!

I started out doing No Buy July, but ended up at Nordstorm Rack during the fourth of July weekend. I bought a lot, but when I sorted out all my receipts, my focus was on underwear/bras. I fully intend to shop at Nordstorms tomorrow too.

I am shopping for all of you. Between trying to find a swimsuit and dress for a wedding, I can't help but stumble on some pretties too. My credit cards are getting tanned, they are seeing so much sunlight! (It will be a long dark August and September for them...)

$1 does seem like almost nothing in today's world. I do have credit in Paypal from some eBay sales but not touching it. I'm still holding strong!
Been avoiding shopping jaunts, even though I now have wheels. Navigated Walmart twice this month for bicycle accessories but steered clear of any tees or other 'oh, it's just $5' items.
I do really want to go ahead and order the darn modal/cashmere blend tee, though! I will wait.
I have a feeling I will be spending in August and September, knowing that our move back home is imminent but jobs there aren't lol. I'll be on SYC for Nov and Dec most likely.

Stay strong Mo, Kiwigal, and Museumgal. The three of you inspire me to try again in August because I should be shopped out in July.

I think November and December would be the hardest months of the entire year to abstain. There is something about shopping in November/December that I adore.

Great job Mo, Kiwigal and MG. I've been able to keep myself since I bought those 2 tops the first weekend. Just trying to stay strong and not think "But it's such a good sale."

I have been shopping for HEWIs only (which I said I would do) and have bought a few things on the HEWI list: a black scarf, crochet shorts, and a summer top (I don't have enough tops for summer and am always looking forward to laundry day). I may also have found a pair of flats—I have no flats in my closet to speak of and am in desperate need. But I haven't bought anything that wasn't on my HEWI list, so I consider myself doing OK.

I caved. Today. At Rack. I bought a pair of summer sandals - my 2nd pair. Bc I am wearing my Soffts to death. And I got a pair of wedge peep toe snakeskin shoes that were on my hewi list. Both cole haan both at Rack prices. But still - technically I caved. But I think it was worth it.

Oh, and I bought a white belt from AT—also on the HEWI list. Plus two $3.50 camis from Old Navy, since I'm again rummaging through the laundry trying to figure out where my current ones are (dirty)!

I have a terrible time finding clothes that fit right, so I am kind of always on HEWI patrol.

ABC, as you'll see from my posts here, I think you have to buy HEWIs when you see them. It doesn't make sense to pass them up if you technically can afford them or have a legitimate need for them. At least, that's my two cents!

I fondled, and even slid onto my foot, some Dearfoam slide slippers in BigLots this evening. I stepped away slowly lol. Was there for an allen wrench . . .

Thanks for chiming in all. You know, I think even if you technically "fail" the challenge, it does force to consider how much you really need that thing. Or maybe I'm just trying to justify my 72 cent scarf ... that was silk. And paisley. And the perfect size to wear in my hair.

I caved - on a "just looking" outing, with a mental picture of an interesting item, I found the item. I'm still not sure that it was a wise buy, but since I've already begun the alteration process, no returning.

I have some Anthropologie credits about to expire so I'll have to bite the bullet by the 20th or the 21st (and take advantage of their free shipping promo to save me $20 off the bat); and some credits at Dorothy Perkins from a parcel they tried to charge me $70 of duty on so I refused it. :p

Aside from that, have been working on my stationery collection and working on notes.

And I caved.. A tank, and a couple of linen tops on their way. But I don't feel bad about it. Somehow my attitude has made a shift, which is more impt. I feel I can get back on track for the rest of the month.

I think MuseumGal is right, that even if you technically fail the challenge, what's important is that you are making well-thought-out purchases and not buying just to have something new and shiny and fun. The challenge helps you think a little more on the front end to make sure that you're making a good purchase and not just shopping out of boredom, mood swings, etc. At least that had better be the case, because I think I've bought the most out of everyone on No Buy July!

Doing good so far...zero clothing purchases. I even walked by some tee shirt/summer clothing shops while on vacation today and when DH asked did I want anything I replied, "Nope. Don't need anything."

But talk to me after NAS really gets going. That could do me in
