Nicholas K - Their inspiration

So the term post-apocalyptic thrown around a lot describing this line. I realize that some on the forum fully embrace this term in terms of creating a style.
So I decided to do some digging on the designers. It's a brother-sister duo. Though they did some pieces for the Hunger Games movies, currently they cite more than once references to nature and the outdoors for their inspiration. Also not necessarily futuristic.

But in the end it is what the consumer sees and wants which can vary greatly from the designer's intent.

ETA I've seen some scuttle that the whole dystopian genre in literature and movies is played out.

My daughter reads a lot of YA fiction. I read her top picks, too. She finds a lot of it to be derivative and lacking originality, especially the dystopian stuff. She follows a parody one on Twitter and reads me the best bits.

When I was working out my black draperies this morning I was thinking that the best outfit would be to look like Tina Turner in Mad Max beyond Thunderdome. That I didn't manage, but I had Mad Max, and Commander Salamander and Fiorucci and other 80s good stuff on the brain today.

Whew, glad to hear the apocalypse isn't necessarily approaching, it's just Mother Nature being a muse to a designer. That sounds all right to me! Now, back to our regularly scheduled fashion programs.

Interesting! Thanks for sharing these with us Anna. Their design lines do have an organic feel, makes sense that nature is a primary muse.

Ha, I came here to share the same hilarious twitter account as UmmLila.

The dystopian YA genre probably is played out, but the new Mad Max was a completely, utterly different sort of movie than I've ever seen, and I'm excited to see the next movie when they make it. Of course, it didn't add much in the way of fashion, unless chrome face spray is the new style.
