Nexx shirt owners: thumbs up or down?

Are people happy with their Nexx shirt purchases from Nordstrom? I seem to remember some discussions about laundering issues. I am debating between buying a Nexx shirt and a Madewell one, or biting the bullet and buying an Equipment shirt. Would love everyone's thoughts!

Laura - I don't own Nexx or Equipment blouses (and what I have seen of them online look lovely). I did want to throw one more candidate in, FWIW: I recently bought myself a bunch of silk shirts from J. Jill outlet (http://www.jjill.com/jjillonli.....;ac=search).

With current discounts, they are retailing at $20.99 - $29.99. The J Jill sizing runs large, so I sized down to an XS; I really love the fit and the feel. (Pictures are at http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....-camuto-kr if you want to see what it looks like.)

Laura, I'm not sure.

I had laundering issues with my first Nexx. I did follow washing instructions, which are to handwash, and the shirt lost its sheen. The blouse has a very specific texture, since is brushed silk. My impression was that the blouse loses that characteristic when is handwashed. That might not be a deal breaker for some, but my OCD went batty over that. That one went back to Nordies.

I then bought three more from Sierra Trading Post at a discount. Those three were all ruined by the cleaners: The shirts were faded out and completely lost their sheen, plus one of them had a brown stain I know was not there before. The cleaners agreed to replace 2 of them. I gave up on the stained one. The replacement ones held well. I am doing dry cleaning only and I specify that the shirts are *silk*, when I drop them off to my NEW dry cleaner. In this case, I think the blouses are not to blame, my ex-cleaner is the one to blame instead.

I guess they are worth looking into with the caveat that they MUST be dry cleaned. Others have used dryel with success.

I have two Equipment blouses but they are not the signature ones. Well, one is but it is the one that's sheer. I love both.

I own several Nexx shirts and love them . I find that they wash beautifully. In fact, I just picked one up from the Nordstrom sale rack on Saturday. It is last seasons color but it is a nice green. I find they run true to size.

Thanks for asking, Laura! I have a new cream Nexx hanging in closet waiting for fall AND because I'm afraid of how to clean it.

I have quite a few Equipment shirts (most from lucky NRack finds) and I always dry clean them (not Dryel, I use the cleaners). I like their silk crepe, and would buy again. But won't buy any more of their silk chiffon as it's too fragile with snagging, pulling at seams, etc. You're so petite that a Signature style might swamp you. You might want to stick with Brett, or one of their less oversized styles.

I would have liked to buy and try JJill, but didn't think they fit me too well. Might try them again in store this fall.

And yes, the silk chiffon is too fragile. I snagged my Daddy Dot Brett blouse yesterday. I don't think I'll be buying them anymore either.

Thanks, guys. Zap, I remember those laundering threads and sympathize with your OCD qualities. I have them too so I'm not sure where that leaves me. I don't mind dry cleaning, but I'm trying to do less of that. I also have less love for the brushed silk and find it overly warm at times. Sara, you make a good point about how oversized Equipment's shirts are, and the sleeve length could be a deal-killer. I found an Equipment knock-off in a red animal print with Angie in March, made by Kensie. Since that's a juniors-type brand, the fit was great. Maybe they will do more this fall.

I might prefer the texture of regular silk crepe, especially for layering. Hmmmm. You all have given me much to think about!

p.s. if anyone has tried the Madewell shirts, I would love to hear about it.

Hi Laura -- I have 2 Nexx shirts, and I really enjoy them. However, I do get them dry cleaned despite the laundering instructions because I didn't want the hand of the silk to change. I haven't had any trouble with them.

I still love both of mine. I wash with Dryel, and I've had zero problems.

If you take the shirts to the cleaners - you are safe.

The AT version is pretty fab too (they call it a camp shirt of all things). And I would also suggest taking those to the cleaners or use Dryel.

I *love* my AT navy silk shirt that Angie's referring to. I also dry clean, but I dry clean everything. (Between me and my husband (he's an every day suit wearer also) our dry cleaner loves us.)

Good to know - I will check out the AT option, which might just fit the bill (not as oversized as Equipment, not as heavy as the washed silk of the Nexx). Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

I love my AT silk camp shirts and the AT silk popover. They run TTT and have a stretchy feel. Pretty colors.

Laura, I asked a similar question about laundering Nexx shirts a few weeks back -- it looks like Sunita, who hasn't chimed in yet, also had a positive experience with the Nexx.

As much as I'd like to be, I'm just not disciplined enough to take my clothes to the dry cleaners on a regular basis. Since I didn't want the hand to change because of my lazy ways I ended up with an Equipment signature blouse, which I've already hand-washed once -- no problems there.

Lastly, it's worth noting that Equipment's "signature" style is quiet oversized, but some of their other cuts are not. In particular, here's me in the "signature" (print), the "bret" (pink), and the "earl" (camel) -- all size small. You can see the bret is quite fitted! There's also a "slim signature" style which I would love to try on -- but this girl's gotta watch her budget, so maybe next year.

I have the same AT shirt that Christy has in navy and I adore it. I have successfully (but carefully) hand washed it.

I'm about to try one of the Nexx shirts as well. Crossing fingers.
