Newbie Question on Tailoring/Altering

I have a lot of boot cut jeans that I dont find myself wearing as much because I am leaning toward straight and skinnie jeans lately. My question is: 1) Is it possible to tailor/alter my bootcuts into strait legs and 2) how expensive is it to do if at all possible? Or is just better I go out and buy more skinny/strait jeans to be in my rotation.

This is probably a stupid question but I rarely get anything altered (only rarely hems on jeans) so I have no clue about any of it. THANKS!

It's possible to alter the legs, but a couple of cautions. Make sure that the tailor takes in the extra fabric on both the outside and inside seams and tell him/her to match the top stitching as closely as possible. Doing this way might cost a bit more, but the jeans will look much better.

On the other hand, boot cuts are a pretty classic style so you could just hold on to them to wear when you want something different from your straights and skinnies.

What Gaylene said. This alteration would be more expensive than hemming I think but should not be too bad. Anyway you can take a pair to the tailore and find out about the price.

I'm no seamstress, but I did it myself with a pair I didn't mind if I ruined. We are talking a travel sewing kit, by hand kind of job. It turned out okay, but not great. Also be sure the knee break is in just the right spot to begin with.
