Newbie-ish question about knit dresses and sweater dresses

How do you wear these dresses without them 'sticking' to your tights or hose? I recently wore a knit dress for a special occasion (Michael Kors marble-print) with sheer hose and knee-high riding boots - felt great, but the thing is? The knit dress was 'sticking' a bit to my sheer black hose.

Also - have a really nice sweater dress that I bought last fall, and haven't worn yet, because I'm unclear as to how to avoid the sticking/static issue. I'd like to wear it with grey opaque tights as per Angie's recent post about updating the sweater dress look, but I'm not sure how to manage the static cling thing.

Any inside tips/suggestions for this newbie dress wear-er? Should I wear the grey chunky sweater dress with jeans or 'leans' instead of trying to wear it with tights or hose? What do you do?

Simple - just get a slip and it will fix all your problems. I get mine from Target or Amazon. Make sure you get one that's a couple of inches shorter than your dress so it doesn't accidentally show.

A half slip is more versatile (you can wear it under skirts too) but a full slip is nice for knit dresses because it can smooth out the weird bulges from the waistbands of tights and things like that.

I often wear a slip or half-slip with knit dresses and tights. I recently put on an outfit and was glad I wore it around the house for a little while before leaving, because walking around made me realize the "sticking" issue was going to be a problem! Half-slip to the rescue.

I wear a half slip. If my slip is too long, I tuck the top into the top of my tights to shorten it a bit.

Thank you! - I'm off to look for at least a 'half slip' tomorrow. Would have made my life a whole lot easier with the knit dress I wore recently. Looking foward to being able to wear my chunky grey sweater dress without worrying about the cling factor.

Some of my skirts are lined, so this hasn't been a problem but I did struggle a wee bit with wearing a knit dress, and am worried about the sweater dress.

Problem solved - off to find a slip or two. Thanks again

you could also that a used piece of fabric softener sheet and rub over the static-y parts of your hose.

eta: bj - I did try Downy Wrinkle Release - and it did help, but not as well as a slip might. At least I smelled good - like Downy fabric softener...lol! It worked well in a pinch, but I think buying a few slips might help a great deal too.

My dress/skirt wearing has been mostly in the summer, and wearing knit or sweater dresses in winter is a new thing for me. I wasn't expecting/anticipating this (knit dress sticking to hose) - just goes to show how much of a learning curve I'm on.

Solution seems simple - get some slips. Will do - and thanks again

Yep, my half-slip is indispensable! I have one white and two black - one mini length and one a bit longer. I also wear them when I wear leggings under a dress.

Spanx biker shorts work for this purpose too. I size up so they are not too tight. I use slips too, but I really hate elastic bands digging into my waist, and sometimes a slip combined with tights is just too much pressure.

Thanks Michelle - yes, it has been a long time. Lots happened, and while I have been enjoying reading all along, I didn't have as much time to participate. Plus, I was a bit nervous about posting pictures. Still am, but I'll get there eventually!

Today I'm on the hunt for slips and/or bike shorts. Not going to just leave these dresses hanging in the closet all winter this time.
