New York YLF Convention: Saturday 31st January

All has gone according to plan and we’ve booked our flights to NYC. The YLF get together is still scheduled for Saturday 31st January. Maya has kindly offered to organize an itinerary for the day, so stay tuned!

But before we get cracking, let’s get the list of people together who showed interest in meeting up. If I remember correctly, the following people were considering the trip:

o Maya, Laura, Tanya, Tara, Jean, Kellee, Shana and Nicole.

Please confirm your possible attendance so that we can start planning properly via private email. If anyone else would like to be included in the private email correspondence, you are more than welcome.

No worries if you can’t say for sure right now. It will all work out in the end!

Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend, I don't know what I was thinking but I forgot that I was teaching on Saturdays in January. I am so disappointed that I cannot be there but am hoping that there will be another opportunity to get together sometime soon. I look forward to all of the pictures and stories!! I will be there in spirit!

I am also more than considering

I am hoping to visit stay with a friend that weekend but she still doesn't know if the timing will be good for her. If in some case it doesn't work out, I am actually thinking of taking a super early bus/train to the gathering, and once it's over head immediately back. I will probably be dead tired if I do that, but it's more than worth it for a chance to see you all!

Tanya, if it makes you feel any better, we’ll be taking a flight back to Seattle at dawn the next day, which means waking up at some unearthly hour as well. We shall be tired together.

We will NOT let the weather get us down. (I can tell I'm going to be sick of snow this Winter. It's snowing again this morning and Winter hasn’t even really started yet).

Angie, I hear you on this winter. It has hit fast and hard. We are expecting 7-10 inches of snow tonight (oh yes, plus freezing rain to top it off) and more tomorrow.

The kids are all ready to have a snow day tomorrow! Fun for them, work for me ...

Let's keep fingers crossed that everyone 1) stays healthy and 2) can make it to NYC without winter weather complications!

We are working from home today. I'm about to bake lemon glaze biscuits and rescue my snowed-in car. How I loathe shoveling my car out of snow.

Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to make it to New York. I'm so sad! It just isn't working out with the various people/monetary considerations.

I will be with you in spirit, though. If you find yourself on Mercer Street, just south of Prince, you will see a fancy lingerie store called "Agent Provocateur." My father had a photography bookstore at that location for many years, until he closed it about six years ago. He still lives right above it!

If anyone wants to head uptown with me after our Soho adventure, I am dying to visit a Searle store - love their coats and clothes, and we don't have their stores here. Maya, the flagship store is Madison and 62nd or so, right?

Laura, I only know about the Searle on 5th ave because it's downtown and I rarely venture above 59th street. It's probably way out of my budget but I"ll come along just to look. Expensive stores are like museums to me and I'm always impressed by what they find there on WNTW!

A lot of good vintage/consignment/thrift stores are located a couple of blocks from school. I always hear good things about Housing Works and when I went to check it out, I was not disappointed. There is also a cute vintage store called the Family Jewels. That's probably more in my price range :p

The area where I go to school has a lot, if not all, of the stores we tend to shop at most here on YLF. There is a J Crew, BR, Esprit, Guess, Bebe, Arden B, ATL, Zara, H&M, and an Express all within walking distance. There is also a Lucky store that I have never been to, and an Aveda store from where I buy all my hair care stuff. That might not be much fun since you can get all those things at home though.

You guys are coming at the right time. I dread the impending subway fare hike

Parsons as in Project Runway Parsons? Too cool! I made my brother swing by there when he went to visit NY a few months ago. If only I had discovered YLF by then I would have had quite the shopping list for him to look for as well!!

Yes Tam, PR Parsons. My classes take place in the building across from the PR building though, so I have never been inside. I started school there just when Tim Gunn left to work at Elizabeth Arden or Liz Claiborne or wherever he works now

I study graphic design, not fashion, though I briefly considered fashion marketing.
