New wardrobe hole: patterned long sleeve tops

In trying to pack for my trip last week I realized that what I really wanted was a long-sleeved top in some sort of pattern with a particular color in it (burgundy, in this case). I have a few short-sleeved shirts with patterns but I really would like long sleeves. Sweaters are the usual thing for winter, I suppose, but it would be nice to have something lighter weight that can be easily layered under a cardigan or other shirt.

Oh, and a new black cardigan in a shorter length. Strangely elusive -- they all seem to be really long this year.

Has holiday prep shown you any new wardrobe holes?

I know exactly what you mean. I always discover a footwear hole or two at this time of year. I still need a pair of dressy booties and a pair of casual boots. I filled my own patterned long-sleeved top hole on Black Friday this year. I stumbled onto a navy cotton/silk blend button down with an owl print at JCP. Not only is it the softest shirt in my wardrobe, it looks good under my sweaters and on its own and I get compliments every time I wear it.

Maybe not holiday prep, but cold weather has shown me I needed to get some more layering basics. I ended up buying a long-sleeved black tee and two black camisoles recently, when I kept finding the ones I had were in the laundry when I needed them.
Otherwise, I'm finding the opposite--I just have too many options some days. I'm flummoxed because there are too many things I want to wear, and not enough occasions (or even just days--haha!) to wear them.

I was going to suggest a cropped cardigan from Boden, but they don't seem to offer it in black. Weird.

I'm having real trouble with sweaters this season. I need to replace a number of them, but I can't wear wool, and I'm not finding many I like otherwise.

Come to think of it, Boden is a good place for patterns too.

LIke Liz, I'm having trouble with sweaters. I can't find anything that's really warm, or if I do, it doesn't come in my size. To top it off, I seem to have developed a sensitivity to wool that wasn't there before, unless I'm dealing with something different (I'm still itching even if the wool isn't against my skin). So the couple of things I found that are warm that have wool in them may turn out to be a problem. Oh well...winter only lasts for six months out of the year.

I think my problems might be compounded by my size. There's just not that much choice in fat lady clothes in the UK, and lately it all seems to be really strange sizes. Case in point: the new jeans I bought are really too big, but one size down was unbelievably tight as well as being far too short. I found this problem with every store I tried, too.

Perhaps I should learn to knit so that I can just make myself the kind of cardigan I want!

How frustrating on the sizing! Mander, do you sew? You can sew a cardigan, too; I'm finding quite a few sweater knits available these days from fabric retailers.
