new purchases and some OT - YouLookFab Forum

hello everyone, happy Thanksgiving! I haven't been on YLF very much in the last several weeks. This has mostly been due to having some more drama (both good and bad) in my personal life, plus a fair amount of work. I started to *really* like a fellow grad student in my lab with whom I went to Spain, and that seemed to progress perfectly for a while...we even finally had the "should we become a couple" (he said that he had reservations because of the fact that we were were colleagues) conversation after weeks of increased talking/flirting/going on a few dates, and all seemed to be perfect, until the very next day: he changed his mind and said that the idea of dating within the lab made him uncomfortable (especially how awkward a breakup would be) and that essentially ended everything, resulting in my being fairly heartbroken. I haven't really liked many people and I liked him very much, and he seemed to like me back, too. I'm slowly starting to move on but it's not an easy process.

One of the small, but still important things I liked about him is how much he appreciated/praised me for how I dressed, he has an excellent memory/eye for what people wear and he told me more than once that I was one of the best dressed people he knew, he liked my Miss Sixty Moto Jacket a lot and made a lot of jokes about it, appreciated my jewelry, etc. etc. Sigh...

Anyway, to come back to the topic, I've gotten a bit back into shopping, and mostly what I've bought in that time has been jackets, which I'm finding more and more are really important to my wardrobe.

I'm sorry about the guy C1. I have seen some relationships go very, very sour within my department, so maybe it's for the best even though I'm sure it doesn't feel that way.

I really like the jackets, especially the tweed one. I hope you can post pictures soon!

Sorry about the boy, C1. I am going through something similar (in many ways worse, not to one-up you) and it is really brutal. You have my sympathy. How annoying that he strung you along, though.

On the bright side, your purchases look fab!

Maya: sorry to hear that--you have my sympathy, too. And I'm sure situations can get much worse than mine. I genuinely don't think he strung me along, though. He had brought it up when on the night we "got together" so to speak as a hesitation on his part before initiating anything, and I guess it was just too much for him in the end. I'm really disappointed, and I think I overestimated his maturity, but I don't think he played me/strung me along.

Kate: yeah, it's something I'm aware of, and we have the added thing that we are both in the same lab group (more like being in the same small company) and actually to a certain extent are in a small tight knit group of friends (in the sense that we have mutual friends who know a lot of details of our lives, and who are also in the lab). So I know his concerns...but I think being adult and professional would have helped. But from what I gather it seems HE has a history of somewhat messy breakups, so maybe it's for the better...but literally everything else about it seemed great, at least from my end. So I was willing to take the risk, and it seemed like he was too...

Glad you guys like the purchases! I've resolved that this semester I'll wear more of the nice stuff I buy, and for the most part in the last two months I was doing that...I had a little bit of extra motivation as you might guess but it was a resolution of mine that I've had for a while, and I plan to continue doing it.

So sorry to hear about the disappointment with the guy! You deserve better than an ambivalent guy!

I hope your beautiful jackets help give you a boost - to get you through some heartbreak I am especially fond of the white denim because I grew to love mine. I like the wide variety of styles you got too - excellent choices!

Oh, I didn't mean that he knowingly strung you along. It's just kind of sucky, whether it was intentional or not. Sorry for the miscommunication. I have to believe whatever is happening to me is for the best, and I'm sure it's the same for you. You were probably spared of a messy situation.

C1, sorry to hear about the heartbreak Make sure you find some time to meet people outside of the lab. It will do you good. Looks like you have done a great job picking some jackets though.

Sorry to hear about the heartache. It sounds like you have a good perspective of it even though it still hurts.

C1 sorry to hear about the boy woes. There is a reason that the saying "don't screw the crew" exists. Although the argument could also be made that it is also difficult to meet people unrelated to work! Anyway, onward and upward. You have some lovely new jackets to focus on for a start!

Sorry to hear about the breakup, unfortunately these things happen. At least the brakes were put on before too much more time was invested into the relationship. It is a challenge when you date a co-worker and not something I've seen go well often. Your best bet is probably someone outside the lab in general or at least your own lab/company environment. Plus that keeps the gossip down too then. Great jacket selection!

Oh, I forgot to add, I bought jeggings from the Limited, not quite the Gap ones but I think should still do for some long tops and tucking into boots, since I'm finding that my skinny jeans aren't as sleek as I'd like for tucking in. They're pull on and not true jeans, though they have real back pockets.

C1, I am so, so sorry to hear of this turn of events! I really enjoyed hearing about him and your evolving friendship during our meet-up. Hang in there. Getting over this sort of thing is never a piece of cake.
