Pics 1-3 — the Allsaints floral/butterfly pattern top. Well, it was easily two sizes too big, and even after one alteration, it’s still overwhelming. The good thing is that the length in front is ok on me, and the shoulder is dropped so that fit element is ok, as is the sleeve length. But there’s just a lot of room in the sides and the back is really long. I think it needs a more drastic alteration and I think my tailor is up to it. It was on such a significant sale that even a big alteration will not touch the original retail price.
Pics 4-8 I’ve now tried the Freda Salvador Emi and Zoe boots. I love these two styles for the slim, pointed toe profile combined with the lug sole, but unfortunately both are a half size to a size too big, and I trip in them as the toe extends too far. The Zoe is the taller shaft in suede, and I like the style of that better because it has a zipper and I don’t have to fuss with laces. The Emi comes in that fabulous patent croc texture but it’s a little stiffer and a bit of a PITA to lace.
But for now, sadly, both go back. I’ve got a notification set to let me know if either one comes back in stock in a 8.5.
I’ve pictured them here with my other similar boots — my Dolce Vita suede lug-soles which I wear a TON, and my patent croc heeled booties that skew a bit dressier.
Pics 9-11 The Proenza Schouler grey trousers. I already cut the tags and wore them out to dinner Friday night. The fabric is heavenly — soft and drapey and a nice weight that is neither too thin or too thick. The black ones I have that are very similar are a little stiff in comparison, but I think it just creates a different vibe. These are a bit roomy in the waist and high hip, but a size down pulled across my low hip and made the pockets gape. I’m going to have the waist tailored to help them hang a bit better, but in the meantime a belt helps.
Also pictured is an impulse add to my Zappos order — the side stripe white sweater from Blanc Noir. I didn’t have high expectations, but I really liked it straight out of the box, and wore it around the house on Friday so I think it’s a keeper. I’m a sucker for a good side stripe and for a white/black top like this. Just a touch of sporty with the thumb holes too!
So, I’m hoping I didn’t make a mistake committing to that Allsaints top. I had pretty print goggles on. I could cut my losses and list it on Poshmark if it is just too big to make work. What do you this, stylish friends?
