New Pants Fit & Color Lab: ETA review of jacket

Some new pant options…..would love your opinions on fit and color.

FYI WHBM’s pant sizing is a little odd at least for these. The rise length is exactly the same between regular and petite. The regular comes in three different inseam lengths, and the petites are yet another inseam length. It is NOT logical and I ended up with some regular and some petites. The WHBM pants all have their “classic rise” of 8 5/8” which is just about perfect for me. All of them fit extremely well (YAYYYY!!) and only need a little taking in at the back waist (story of my life). All the fabrics have a good weight and feel good. I've semi tucked my top although I never do that IRL. All these pants could have their hems rolled. Also apologies for the lighting from the skylight...it's so nice to have that bright light except when I'm taking outfit photos

1 2 WHBM dark wash slim jeans. This fit looks just right to me and the length is good.

3 4 5 WHBM smoky topaz (like toffee with just a hint of yellow) skinny utility jeans. I question whether this shape is JFE, since it tends to exaggerate the difference between my thigh and ankle widths. I'm also not sure how I feel about this color. I also ordered the jacket but it has not arrived yet.

6 7 Same skinny utility jeans in cool olive. Same fit questions.

8 9 Loft Girlfriend Chinos in a light olive. Regular size, the rise is not listed but is just a bit longer than the other pants, maybe 9”. Totally different cut and look, but I like these too.

I'm thinking of keeping the jeans and the two olive ones. Not so excited about that smoky topaz color.

I really like the light ,is it toffee colour?the jacket looks lovely.Have you thought about wearing a slightly wider leg jean as I think that these may suit you.

Next I like #6 - the first pair of olive utility pants. KILLER.

And the last pair of olive pants are a good fit too. Better in person without pesky shadows and bad light, I bet. Have you tried rolling the hems?

They all look great but if you're not wanting to keep everything, my favourites are 1/2 and 6/7. I hope the jacket works out, because it looks like it will suit your style.

Cardiff Girl, not sure what you are asking about the light...it's natural daylight coming in from a skylight on the ceiling, and it interferes with photos at some times of the morning. I DO sometimes wear bootleg jeans and slightly wider straight leg ones, you are right they are definitely a good choice on my body type.

Thanks Angie! I agree on the dark wash jeans. Slam dunk. The darker olive ones are good too but I have to get used to that silhouette. I HAVe tried rolling the hems on the lighter olive chinos, in fact they came that way and it looks good.

Thanks La P. I'll have to see how the jacket looks once I get it. Not so sure about the color. Definitely would NOT go with these olives, but would work with blue denims and white.

Thanks Lesley. Yeah the last two are a very classic chino style, not so trendy. I like some of that in my closet. As Angie suggested I would definitely fold up the hems some of the time.

I debated with myself about posting a comment as I know that I am overly sensitive about the issue of hip/thigh to lower leg differences (teased a lot when younger about a very pear shaped body). I decided to give you my opinion but please keep in mind it is excessively picky and feel free to disregard it

I think all of these fit really well on you, the WHBM better than the Loft but I think a slightly wider hem widths would be more flattering (even a 1/2" can might a big difference). It would also depend on the tops you wear with them To me the WHBM jeans and olive pants look OK, but the toffee are just +/-. I find the lighter the color the more it emphasizes the differences between hips/thighs and ankles and the wider the hem width needs to be to be flattering.

Lynn, thanks for the feedback, and I agree with your assessment. I am sitting on a fence between exactly what you said vs relaxing my rules a little. I will have to get off the fence eventually and decide which side to land on. I've pretty much decided to return the toffee ones, I just don't like the color, but the olive ones I'm still thinking about.......

I prefer this type of pant over a wider leg. They are not skin-tight, just skimming. I guess we all have our own opinions on these things!

I Think a rolled hem would look good for the summer.

I really like 1/2 and 6/7. The others look fine but not as good as these pairs where the fit looks really good.

A good fit in the waist, hips and butt is a hard thing to get sometimes so you have done well.

More votes for #1 and #6 (I don't mind the topaz color, though!). I do think the chinos will look a little spunkier rolled up, too.

To my eye, all these pairs fit you fablously, except 8-9 which appears a little less fab. My favorites are 1-2 by far, then 3-4, then 6-7, in that order.

I love #1 on you the best - they are fantastic. I think we have a consensus because I can see that everyone else has said the same thing! You have done well, because the other pants fit well too. Of the olive pairs, #6 / 7 is a nicer colour to my eye and I like how they look on you.

Have you considered a dark grey pair of jeans? I find them to be very versatile because they seem to go with most colours that I pair them with and the darker colour is flattering. A pair that I bought recently are in finds (just so you get the idea of the colour I am referring to). If #1 comes in other colours, I would certainly look at those because the fit is perfect on you.

Thanks Bijou, yes I do have grey jeans and completely agree on how versatile they are. I have a NYDJ one that is a true workhorse and a very traditional Lee one that I've had for years in a lighter grey. I looked up the style you showed, and it is a true high rise of 11", which would mean I could tuck the waistband into my bra when I sit down so not the right pair for me but great idea, thanks for suggesting it.

Chris, another vote for 1 & 6, although I admit a bias towards darker bottoms (with the exception of true white); I find them generally more flattering on most people, but that is a personal preference!

Echoing others and torontogirl. I like 1, followed by 6. Angie has pointed out light jeans is a wardrobe hole for me, but I too tend to prefer dark or white over light.

The jacket in that "Smoky topaz" color is not a keeper for me. The quality is excellent, but I don't love the color. Also not loving the higher/closed neckline look or the overall shape on me. It's not awful, just not great either. Also dislike the length of the bracelet sleeves more than I expected. The style is kind of a western boho and the trim detail on the collar and sleeves is quite nice with a hint of blush in it. For the right person this would be a great jacket.

Chiming in to say the jeans in 1 and 2 are absolutely perfect on you. I would get a second pair if they don't slide down or show other faults upon one or two wears. It is so hard to find perfect jeans. I have many, many jeans, but only a few are in that beloved category where they actually wear out. I've wished I had second pairs of those.
