New Jacket : Keep or Return - YouLookFab Forum

Hi Ladies,

Need your advice:)

I bought a grey jacket today, however I do already have a lovely grey jacket in my closet.

The question I have is do you think it;s worth having two grey jackets?

The differences as I see them:

#1-3 The New Jacket

#4-6 My existing Jacket

Existing jacket is very tailored, woven, herringbone, defined lapel and quite 'corporate'. I wear this jacket to work, particularly when I am making a presentation, or conducting training. I do not wear this casually or on weekend.

New jacket is a grey marle, stretch ponte. Very comfortable. Slightly lighter than the existing jacket. Zipper detail on pocket. I would wear this both to work and casual.

So, they are similar but different

Can you check out the pics and let me know what you think? #1-3 are not styled at all and Im not looking my best. And ofcourse, if you don't think the new jacket works, looks good, etc please let me know. I feel it looks a bit bland in the photo and actually looks better IRL.

And I do have room in my closet:) I purged four older jackets tonight:)

They are very similar, but I think the new one looks more updated/modern. And why waste all that extra room in your closet, lol! I say keep!

I like the new one. It is a few inches shorter and the collar lays flatter. I'm not sure about it adding a new dimension to your wardrobe but it definitely fits you very well and looks great.

It won't add a lot of change to your work wardrobe, but that will be a huge workhorse in your closet. It looks very sharp and modern, and has a lot of possibilities.

Thanks so much ladies. I have been wanting to add a little more grey to my wardrobe and have done so to my work capsule but not so much to my casual capsule. I was thinking this jacket might be a step toward developing that aspect in my non work wear:).

I love your new grey blazer...I think its really important to have updated classics to keep looking current. You look stylish without trying too hard

They are very similar, but I think the shortened hemline of the new jacket flatters your shape better.

You always look amazing and well put together!

I like the new on on you better, and it has a nice modern update. Ponte knit tends to be more comfortable as well, so great for work when you don't have a presentation.

However, it does not really fill any wardrobe holes. But you may not have holes, and if you wear the current jacket a lot this boarders on duplication.

If your closet and budget can fit both, I vote keep.

I recently purchased a very similar jacket to 1-3 in fuchsia. Mine was a very inexpensive piece from H&M, but the style is almost identical - knit fabric, a bit cropped, with zipper detail pockets. That jacket has been an absolute workhorse in my travel capsule. It is PERFECT for travel because it doesn't wrinkle, stretches a bit so feels comfortable at all times, and can be dressy or more casual as the occasion demands.

I would keep this for sure. I also think the light grey is a lovely transitional colour that works well in both spring and autumn/ winter.

Perhaps because I lean towards a more polished look I love jacket #2 best. l like them both for different reasons. The first jacket is streamlines, polished yet casual, I also like the zipper detail. But there is something about those herringbone stripes that grabs me I say keep them both. You look absolutely dashing in #4.

Super jacket! Being the same color is not really the issue as long as you do use that color in your wardrobe. The cut and fit difference gives a very different vibe and takes you in a different (I think great) direction. You will find you can wear this one with pants and skirts/dresses that would not have worked with the more boxy one.

I recently bought a fitted gray knit Cremieux jacket that seems to be having the effect of opening up new style doors for me--I think this will do the same for you.

I like the new one, too. If you are like me, you will wear the ponte one more because it will be more comfortable. They look different anyway, because your older one is longer. They will each work with different outfits because of the different length.

I vote keep, too! You look great in the new one as well as the old one but it fills a slightly different role, and I'm sure it will become a workhorse for you.

I love the new jacket, Deborah, and I think it's different enough from the old one to justify a place in your closet.

I think you'll find that you reach for it a lot because of the comfortable ponte knit, but it still looks very polished, and I love the zipper detail.

The length, the stretch fabric & the lapel are all more modern imo.
