New-ish premium jeans ripped - what to do?

I bought a pair of Citizens skinny jeans on sale from Shopbop three months ago. The jeans are the ones I attached in finds, skinny cut Avedon in wash called Montauk. I have sized up for slightly looser fit. The denim us unusually soft and very pleasant on the skin.

Well, a couple of days ago the jeans unexpectedly ripped! It is a huge rip on the side, right above the knee. I was just sitting down with my lef folded under and it happened. Needless to say, I am incredibly annoyed, especially as those happened to be my favorite skinnies. They were not worn a lot, in those 3 months I have had them, about once a week, and washed 2-3 times. I have never had anything similar ever happen with any of the other pairs of my premium denim, and I have had some pairs for 10 years.

I am personally not a fan of ripped jeans for myself and would not wear them in public. I know that I can always make shorts out of them next summer, but I am curious if you think it is worth to try contacting Shopbop or Citizens themselves about a possible replacement. Maybe that is not possible because they were on sale. Or maybe I got spoiled by Nordstrom and am hoping for impossible Sigh...

Aw that's too bad! It doesn't hurt to try, but it just could be a result of the super soft denim. My guess is there's nothing they can do, but really I am not familiar or even used to the outstanding customer service at nordstrom. Angie's right, maybe a patch? Or perhaps a seamstress can patch it from the back. My mom used to do that for us, so you can barely see if from the outside.

Hmm Angie, do you mean to sew a patch over the rip? The rip is pretty large, attaching a photo. Should I than add more patches elsewhere for a more cohesive look?

Dang! I thought you meant the seam had ripped, which would be an easy fix. The Avedons are so soft but I didn't think they were that delicate. I would call and see if either place can help out. Frustrating....

I've used Denim Therapy (out of NYC) in the past and have been really happy with their repair work. You'd never guess there was a rip, it was that good.

I would try the customer service route first, just to know. Then, what Jackiec said, whereby anna606's tip is the high end option. Their repairs really are that good.

Start with shopbop. Then citizens. If either has a Facebook page or Twitter account consider appealing to then there as well.

Darn! That's a big tear. I would definitely try calling COH. I ordered a pair for myself just yesterday based on the softness.

You know it is almost as if the material is rotten...I would definitely try Shopbop where you purchased them and then COH...No denim should be that fragile...Doesn't something like that make you loose your faith in designer clothing?....

FWIW, you could go for the distressed look. Real holes look even better IMO. A patch on the underside will keep you warm Just for reference, I would love to buy the jeans attached if they were available in my size.

I would try a call to Shopbop and tell them what happened. It sounds like you wore and washed them maybe 3 times? That shouldn't happen.

I would try to return them. If unsuccessful, then I would make a note to never buy that brand again (and to avoid that merchandiser as well). Three months for premium jeans is ridiculous.
