Hello fab ladies,

I had the first consultation with the decorator. The excavation is scheduled (was for last Thursday so should be soon) so I had to select the exterior finishes so they would have the shingles on time.

The stone will be below the front window, on either side of the garage, on a pillar by the entry and on the corner on the other side from the garage. The light color is the stucco. It will be knock-down texture on the built out detail. The shingles are above the stucco color (the one on the right). It picks up the grey/cream from the stone. The deep green/grey will be used on the fascia, eaves, soffit and trim around the garage door and the deeper taupe circle is the color of the garage door.

I can either go with the standard white window frame which will make the windows stand out more or upgrade to the same color as the grey/green used on the soffit and eaves.

What do you think? The house is a bungalow.

I think the grey/green look great - more modern somehow.

The stucco is the white-ish rectangle, overlapped by the grey/green sample? Wouldn't the grey/green stand out more than white against the stucco?

I went back and looked at a few pictures of homes that I liked and they almost all had the white window frames. The few I saw with the darker frames did have much darker stucco.

The decorator seemed to think the white would be better. I see advantages to both but Rachylou you are probably right. The darker ones would stand out more.

I would wait until I was sure I had all the interior upgrades I wanted - eg, smooth ceilings, deeper baseboards, wider mouldings, crown moulding, quality hardwood, taps, tubs, toilets, etc - before considering exterior upgrades. If you have money left over, then maybe the darker windows would be an option. But you may want to save the money for your exterior hard scape - driveway, walkways, patio, deck and so on. There's always something to spend money on when you are building a new house!

I"d match the windows to the stucco not the roof trim--white window trim on white stucco, dark window trim on dark stucco. High contrasts between windows and walls draw the eye to the shape and size of each window, which can look quite busy.

I agree with Gaylene. I think white would look better in this case.
