New Here. Help with Body Type, Please?

Hi, brand new. I am so glad there is a forum to help us girls figure this out. I have such a difficult time deciding what shape I am. I have links to front and side views. Can anyone help me figure out what body type I am, please? Thank you so much!

Oh, totally forgot to give you all measurements. I am 5'9" tall. Bust=33.5", Waist, 26.5, Hips, 36.5. Pants inseam for flats is 34" (I have long legs, although they don't look so long in these pics). Thanks!

Welcome, MissLady! You'll find this to be a friendly and supportive group of women. Regarding body type, I'm certainly not the expert, but I'd say you look like an hourglass tending a bit toward an inverted triangle (your shoulders appear wider than your hips). We'll wait for those with more expertise to say for sure, though...

Welcome Miss Lady and thanks for posting pics!

Your body type tends three ways:
1. Your athletic build (you have few curves) allows you to take guidelines from the rectangle.
2. Your narrow waist allows you to adhere to an hourglass ( a straight-ish one)
3. Your broader shoulder line makes you an inverted triangle but ever so slightly.

Do you wear a bigger size on top than on the bottom?

Actually, I usually wear a smaller size on top. I tend to fit xs and s for tops. Sometimes with structured pieces I have trouble because they will fit my bust, but my waist and shoulders seem too wide. For bottoms, I usually wear s and m or 4/6. As you can tell, I'm pretty flat from the side. Thank god you are all here to help me! I am so confused!

Those sizes sound propionate to me - sizes are not created equally. Perhaps you need to be refitted for a bra?

Angie, that is a whole other story for me. Even when fitted for bras, the specialists seem confused. I have not gained or lost any weight since last being fitted, and I am the same measurements. My ribcage is 31 + 5 = band size 36. Bust is 33.5. I usually wear a 34A because the cups and band size is the best compromise. Even when I do find AA, they don't seem to fit correctly.

But thank you so much for helping with the body type. I see what you both see now, and it will be quite helpful to me.

I've had multiple bra fittings at Victoria's Secret and Intimissimi (which is owned by VS).

Hmm, please don't take this wrong, but VS is not the greatest place to be fitted. Try Nordstrom or a specialty place, such as Intimacy, instead.

Nordstrom will probably have a wider range of cup and band sizes to choose from. It's a bit more expensive, but so worth it--I LOVE my Chantelle bra, so comfy and it fits perfectly. My clothes look better when I'm wearing it, too.

I agree with Tanya and Ana. I too went to VS for a fitting and went to Nordstrom several weeks later for a comparison. VS sized me incorrectly (put me in a "similar" size since they didn't carry what they considered my size to be) and I was less than satisfied with the product itself. Within several weeks the bra stretched out.
At Nordstrom, they put me in a Chantelle (which was a cup bigger and a band size smaller than VS), and I haven't bought anything else since. I wait for them to go on sale. After I bought and wore my first Chantelle, I told my husband "so THAT'S what the right bra feels like!". I strongly recommend going to Nordstrom and after a fitting trying on several high quality bras. It will change your life.

I’d suspected you’d had a VS experience, Miss Lady. Absolute codswallup. VS is clueless. I cannot be more direct about this. As the ladies have suggested, get yourself off to Nordstrom or a specialty lingerie shop for a professional fitting. It will take about an hour of your time and shall change your life.

Thanks, ladies! Haha, you all put a smile on my face. I will have to get to a Nordstrom as soon as I can, which probably won't be for a while because I am going on a two month internship in Italy. Any Italian specialty lingerie shops you know about?

Hi MissLady, while you're in Italy, maybe you can try out a Marie-Jo bra (Belgian quality brand:

I think it might be comparable with Chantelle, correct me if I'm wrong Angie. They have two collections for each season: MarieJo L'Aventure (lingerie with very simple lines, modern and stylish) and MarieJo Haute Lingerie (a more sophisticated look with use of lace etc.). I like the Aventure ones best, they look fabulous on and fit perfectly.

They're probably not available in the USA, but I just saw on their website that they do have points of sale (presumably specialty lingerie shops) in Italy. I don't know exactly where you'll be going, but you can look up the Italian points of sales here:

Bare in mind that not all shops sell both lingerie lines (this is indicated below the address of each point of sale).

Misslady, I'll echo the need for a really good bra fitting. After many years of wearing a 34 or 36 AA I went to Nordstroms because of what I read here and a weight loss. My new bras are a 32 B or C, depending on the style! Never in a million years would I have tried a B or C! Please go get fitted and don't waste all those years of not looking as good as you can in your clothes like I did.
