Hello all! I found this wonderful place here this morning and gave not been able to peel myself away!!
I was wondering if I could get help figuring out what to wear to my husband's office party which is to take place in a hip club. The invitation does not specify type or attire. I want to wear something not too dressy but do not want to be under dressed.
Did I mention that the party is tomorrow and I started looking for dresses only yesterday!!
So I got this dress this morning and am wondering what you all think of it.

I have really problem feet and these shoes are the only ones I found to be comfortable.
Maybe these could work too comfort wise

but the ones I am wearing are a lot more comfortable.
I am unsure about the fabric of the dress although I think it fits me well and it is very comfortable.

If you think the dress works, can you help me accessorize it? Can I wear a necklace? Should I just stay with a statement earring?

The dress looks cute and if it fits you well, you are in business!

Are the shoes also black? (I only saw one link to shoes so I'm not sure which ones you are planning on.)

If you want, how about a clutch in a fun colour, like red or fuchsia or in a metallic, silver or gold?

If your hair is short or you will wear it back or up, a statement earring and then some arm candy might be nice, too.

Or a necklace...not statement earrings and necklace. So it might depend on what you find that works.

They are open toe, is that no no? They are comfy because they are open toed though.

I will be leaving my hair down, I have shoulder length hair. Is it okay to wear a statement necklace with high neck dresses?

Oh and are tights or stockings required?

I really like this dress! Dressy but not over the top. And I really like those shoes too, classic so they could be worn with a lot of different things. I would do a statement necklace I think, but some sparkly earrings could also be great. I also like Suz's idea of a fun clutch to add a pop. Welcome!

Those shoes are cute! Are yours red? In that case, I would go with a gold or silver clutch.

You don't need hose if it isn't cold. If it is cold, I'd wear the sheerest hose you can find with peep toes.

And if your hair is long and you'll wear it down a necklace might be nice. You'll have to play around to get the right length, but it's do-able! Maybe even chunky pearls, if that's your thing.

That dress is really cute...and perfectly appropriate for the party, I think. The shoes work, too. It's important to be comfortable!

I would go with statement earrings and/or bracelets since the neckline is high and there is already some interest there with the tie at the back of the neck. I'm not sure you want to compete with that by wearing a necklace. But that's just my opinion! A fun color clutch is a great idea since your shoes are black.

Good for NancyLee for thinking of the necklace competing with the back. The high front is actually a good canvas for necklaces but she really has a point.

So yes, earrings and/or bracelet and/or clutch. I'm favouring glittery over colour.

So, my husband gets back from work and kind of felt that this dress made my tummy area not very attractive!

Your plan sounds okay to me. Have you thought about a topper? You might need something to cover your shoulders at times. Some kind of glittery pashmina could do the trick, and double as a scarf at your throat on the way to and from, if you live in a cold climate.

The dress is pretty perfect for an office X-mas party. I have the Me Too pumps, and they are my favorite pair of shoes right now. I really like the idea of red shoes - very party pretty.

Thank you all for your suggestions. Shopping is tiring, especially when you have a deadline! I bought a whole new dress etc. etc. but my DH still thinks that the simple black dress fits me the best.

I have these teal and silver peacock earrings that are certainly a statement which I thought I could wear with it. We saw these pumps at the easy spirit store and they were very comfortable so I will get those in teal tomorrow am.

also I have a simple pashmina in teal. JR, yes it is very cold here so I will appreciate the warmth! I did not get the patterned tights but I think I might tomorrow because I think they will be fun.
Hopefully I can post pictures soon and I can show you how it all looked and I am keeping the fingers crossed that I look the part!!

I am back just to say that I am still not sure if this whole ensemble is dressy enough. I have never been to very formal parties before and am completely clueless about this. This is DH's new job. Also, I guess I am not very sure how formal it is going to be really.
SO, if you have anything to say at all about what I described above, even negative...hmm especially negative, please know that I am all ears!

If it's in a hip club, it can't be rigorously formal. Also, if it were rigorously formal, dress would have been specified on the invite.

I think the ensemble is the perfect see you through anything outfit. In fact, if you put a few different necklaces in your pocketbook, you could completely change the vibe at will without fuss.
