New Haircut!

Hi Everyone!

I just got home from getting my haircut. I'm really happy with how it turned out! Brendan is still in shock, but he actually likes it too. Bobby, my stylist, was SO excited and had a lot fun doing the cut. He said I made his weekend. He usually does foil highlights for me, but he specializes in hand painted highlights, so he did those this time instead. I love how the color turned out. And the cut turned out way better this time than it did 10 years ago.

I kind of had a mini freak out moment when I felt sort of masculine, but then I went to Express (which is nearby my apartment) and tried on every lacy ruffly thing they had, regardless of whether it was good for my body type or not. Then I felt girly again and got even more excited because the items looked sweet and feminine now, and not like "grown up dressing like a little girl." And I tried on some tops that showed off my shoulders and neck and really liked how sexy/alluring it looked. Hooray, I'm so excited.

EDIT: Oh, I forgot to add that my hair was long enough to donate! That made me really happy. I looked at the wimpy ponytail after my haircut and I was even more glad I cut it--I can't believe I was wearing that thing around for so long!

Thanks everyone! Brendan is liking it more and more by the minute. He said, "Ooh, I've never kissed this bit before." lol.

San, I did use the Michelle Williams picture as one of my inspirations photos. I took that one and the other one that Angie liked, and also some other photos of pixie cuts to Bobby and told him what I liked about each one. Mostly it was the softness, I didn't want a spiky punk rocker pixie, I wanted it to be cleaner and more sweet. He totally understood, it was fantastic. And it was so nice that he was really excited by the cut too. His wife co-owns the salon with him and she was dying a lady's hair from blonde to a pretty bright red, so it was a big day at the salon.

Taffy, he did use an electric razor to shave around the edges of the cut on my neck. It is sort of weird! Now I know how Brendan feels when he shaves his head.

It is shocking when I look in the mirror--I mostly stop and want to mess with it, heh heh. My bangs need some definite training (it doesn't help that I have a cowlick in the middle of my hairline). Bobby said, "To keep your sanity, just do your bangs, and walk away, just walk away. Or else you'll be messing with them all day and it'll drive you nuts." Lol.

Ana - as Angie would say, I'm in orbit. You look gorgeous in that cut -- it really highlights your eyes and the line of your neck. I think it looks very feminine. Just a note -- you'll need a lot less shampoo with short hair. When I go from long to short, I use way to much shampoo the first few days!

Ana I have been admiring Michelle Williams short hair for a while now. It works so well on her features and it works so well on yours. It brings out your nice shaped lips and nice jawline. Those are the very things I don't like to focus on my face. I guess Victoria Beckam now has a do kind of like yours too. Have fun with it. You look very fun and polished.
What great advice from your stylist to not mess with you bangs or it will drive you nuts.

Ana you look so great! The cut really brings attention to your eyes and I love the color. I think you'll probably love the ease of having short hair - and it will look good all the time (even if it's windy etc.)

It's only going to get better over the following days. The first wash is kinda shocking, but after that it should be really fun playing with styling. And more possibilities for new tops and styles!!!

OMG!! Ana you look fantabulicious! I love love love this look on you! I didn't even know you were contemplating a new hair cut, never mind a drastic one! (I gotta get back here more often.)

A little birdie told me you're new haircute looked amazing, so I jumped right over here to see for myself. I hadn't even had any cofffee yet! You are very brave, but also very beautiful. I envy all you finely faced women who can wear such short hairstyles. I've worn my hair short (not this short, but still short)--and I look very unkempt and dopey.

I laughed at Sihayas "too much shampoo" comment... and how about that moment in the shower when your run your hands down the back of your head to rinse all the shampoo out and your hair stops long before your brain expects it to. That's always a shocker!

Again, Ana...I can't say it enough--you look incredible. Congrats on such a perfect cut!

Thank you so much everybody! (I have a huge grin on my face, and I won't need to use blush today). I will debut my cut at school this morning, and it will definitely be a standout (99% of the girls on campus have long hair), so it's so nice to get such a wonderful response here. It gives me confidence that it really does look good.

I woke up half an hour ago, so I'm sitting here drinking some tea before I get in the shower. I will keep the shampoo tips in mind, thanks Sihaya and AJ!

Oh, Ana, it's awesome! As others have said, your new 'do really draws attention to your beautiful face. Re: your cowlick comment, I also have a cowlick in my bangs, so I just use that as the point at which I sweep my bangs to the side. It works out very well!

OMG, I'm still a little bit in shock, I didn't have a clue that this was coming (you probably talked about it on the forum but I missed a bunch of threads while I was travelling, and so when you mentioned that you were going to the hairdresser in a post a couple days ago I just thought you'd get a trim.) This is radical, and it's a super duper new look. Nothing masculine about it. Instead you look smart, sophisticated, hip, stylish, fab, and cute. Yay for being brave! Whew! It's been a busy day!

Thanks again everyone! I'm blushing. You all are super sweet! I'll tell Bobby that you all approve as well. Sarah, he's really good, I would recommend him to anyone. He would probably be conservative on the first few cuts he gave you though. He says if he's not familiar with your hair, then he likes to err on the side of caution rather than do something drastic that would then have to grow out if you hated it. That's what he did with me at first. But then when he gets to know your hair better he's definitely up for being adventurous if you want to. While he was cutting my hair this time, another stylist asked if he was nervous. He said, "Well, not yet because I've been cutting Ana's hair so long that I pretty much know what it's going to do....I might though when I get to the bangs and the cowlick," lol. But he did great the whole time!

People at school did notice, but I sort of forgot that I cut my hair (maybe because I feel so comfortable in it, and also it's not much different than when I had my hair pulled back). So when someone from my class saw me they sort of stopped and looked at me surprised, and I momentarily couldn't figure out why they were looking at me funny. But then everyone said they really liked it!

Patience and Sarah, I would LOVE to see you guys for my birthday! That would make it so special and fun, since I wasn't really planning anything big, maybe just dinner with Brendan. Thank you so much for suggesting that. My birthday is October 18th, which is a Saturday. There is a game that day though, which Brendan and I will probably go to. Can you guys get together Friday the 17th? That's a week from tomorrow. Or maybe the week after that on Friday would work too. Maybe we could get a late lunch/snack.
