New glasses teaser

I got my eyes tested and as I knew, my prescription had changed significantly. So I went spec shopping today. I had the best intentions to run some choices past my Fabber friends but lo and behold I fell in love HARD with not one but two pairs and promptly ordered them. When you know, you just know.

The first pair are bright cherry red Coach with clear arms. The second pair are geeky in their oversized style with purple arms and the top of the eyes with clear at the bottom of the eyes.

There is nothing subtle about either pair and I find it interesting that at 50 I seem to have the confidence to wear something so bold.

I am also getting my new prescription put into my current black and white glasses. This will give me three great choices - such decadence!

I should get them in about 10 days so you and I will just need to wait...

Oooh! These sound terrific! I can't wait to see them. I would love to order a new pair of specs this year again! They are so expensive for me due to my prescription...I've had one pair for two years in a row so I might just have to wait this year out.

My work coverage is laughable. I mean, it's probably reasonable for most people, but for me, it doesn't even cover one lens, LOL. Plus I also have contacts to buy. And that's not just a matter of vanity -- the only way I can maintain some semblance of comfort is to wear contacts part of a day and specs for part of the day -- I can't wear either for a full day!

Ooooh, can't wait to see them. I love new specs, even though so far I only have to wear them for tv/movies/driving. I think you're absolutley right about the magic of 50. I've branched out more this year than in the previous 50 combined. I say, go for it!

Shannon, that's great that the perfect pair(s) presented themselves so quickly to you! Shopping for frames was long and arduous for me last year. Can't wait to see them!

Oh! Thank goodness for work coverage. My last pair cost almost $900. Ouch.

Yea for the new specs. I get $125 for frames and $150 for lens from my work. And it has to be with Costo (no frames I like) or the expensive shop that takes my insurance. But, I only have to pay $10 for the exam.

I am wondering if any glasses wearers have an issue with, or solution for, eyelashes hitting their lenses. I do not wear mascara, but my glasses get smudged from skin oils or something and it drives me mad.

I am looking forward to seeing your new specs. I do not think you will regret investing in two new pairs. I, too, wear glasses every day (extremely myopic -- and cannot comfortably wear contacts) and have multiple pairs of glasses. I see it not only as an important fashion investment (like buying quality handbags or shoes), but also as an investment in my health.

Ooh, can't wait to see them! I'm thinking of refreshing my glasses this year too, although I kinda wanted to do it before I leave on my big trip, and that's only a few weeks away.

Una, I have that problem a lot, and it's a big part of the reason why I need glasses with nosepads, to hold the glasses further away from my eyes.

alaskagirl, I have that issue, but no solution aside from carrying something to clean my glasses with. I do wear mascara, so I wait for it to dry before I put my specs on.

alaskagirl, I had that issue bigtime until I discovered lash curlers. Those old-school contraptions that I avoided for decades because I thought they were all about vanity turn out to be useful for specs-wearing ladies.

And there's a step 2 for me, another move up to utility from what I once saw as only vanity: I actually use mascara to brush and hold my lashes OUT to the side a bit so that they don't hit my lenses (aside from what it does for those like myself whose blonde lashes are visibility-impaired without it).

Of course, clear mascara would do the same for anyone who doesn't need more color there. (Unlike not that long ago, it's now very widely available.)

And to the OP, yay for new specs! I'm waiting on some as well. I've never had more than one pair at a time, so my new 3 will feel like an embarrassment of riches, yes...can't wait to see yours!

shannon, at 50 i think I'm feeling more confident to bold attention getting glasses/accessories/outfits than i did in my 20's.

I'm also finding a lot more confindence to be bold, as I near 50. Not quite there yet :).

And Una, I've had this problem, esp with sunglasses, but I find that I can overcome it by keeping on looking... I don't know what it is, obvioulsy the shape of the frame, but I have always managed to find glasses that my eyelashes don't touch, but it's always something I am aware of when I try them on.

I am so incredibly sorry for being to late in getting back to my own thread.

Thanks for the boost of confidence in my bolder spec choices. It's going to drive me crazy having to wait 7-10 days for them. It's funny how when I was younger, my glasses were all about being invisible. I wanted glasses that showed up the least and didn't draw attention to my face. And now I want my glasses to be like "face jewelry".

Una - yes, I have trouble too with my eyelashes rubbing on my lenses but as ambergreen mentioned, I have taken to using an eyelash curler which has helped tremendously. Having the glasses fit a certain way on the bridge of my nose helps too.
