New Glasses and First Greys - YouLookFab Forum

I had my eyes tested on Friday and was told my eyes are older than my chronological age due to having a squint
Anyhow, I had all of half an hour to choose new frames and headed to the teen area because I officially have a small face and a small head on my 5ft 8" body. Most of the glasses were dismissed on the basis of snobbery (I am not wearing Bench http://www.bench.co.uk/ ) or for the teenage bling.
The pair I settled on are still slightly oversized and I'm quite happy with how they look but for future reference I would love to know how you think I could improve the fit.

As an aside, I stopped dying may hair in November whilst Ben and I paid the balance on a summer beach holiday and have noticed the first greys are appearing. Thanks to the wonderful conversations of the forum recently I have not given these strays a moments thought, they are what they are and I have earned every one.

I am baffled at how fast your hair grows. It seems like very recently you had a pixie! Aren't you tempted to go back to it?

And your hair colour, from my screen, looks very good. You don't need to dye it any time soon.

You have the most beautiful skin, and I don't really see any greys, but I think that is one area where blondes have an advantage!

I'm not an expert on glasses -- definitely still learning -- but it seems to me that these are just a little large for you, both in width, and in height. The shape is great, and they seem to follow your bowline nicely, but I think they are a bit too big below your eyes. I've seen Angie mention that it's best to have the eye centered in the frame.

I feel very Velma from Scooby Doo in these glasses, not sure if she is a style icon though.

The camera has not caught the greys but they are there.

Krish, I'm not feeling the urge to pixie yet but as sure as night follows day I grow my hair to cut it off again.

Yes Janet, I know what you mean about the eyes being off centre. Glasses are a steep learning curve without a doubt.

It is such a shame that there are so few petite frames on the market!

You did a great job in the amount of time you had to choose your frames! I went to 11 different frames shops and there seems to be a consensus that oversized frames are going to be the new thing, so you're right on trend. I love the classic tortoise as well.

Love the tortoise shell on you, I am no expert on glass frames but these look fine to me. Maybe it is just because you are so lovely and pretty that they can't help but look good against their canvas!

About those first grey hairs, blondes do have an advantage if hiding and blending in grey hairs is the goal. I have dark brunette hair and am enjoying and interested in watching the process of my greys coming in, they look silver and sparkly against their darker field. I am finding myself rather fond of them too, maybe because I share that feeling about earning every single one of them.

You look wonderful, Julie! I like the glasses a lot! Nicely geek chic but not overwhelming. As for the greys, they blend beautifully with your blondes. So well, I cannot see them. All I see is gorgeous skin, luminous eyes, and a refined intelligence.

Having the eyes centred can played with though -- offhand I think Diana's glasses play with that idea a lot in a lovely way.

I do see more and more around here people imitating a more 80s style with an exaggerated lower sweep of the glasses.

love the tortoise! enjoy the glasses. perhaps for next time consider glasses that extends a few mm shorter to lift the eye.

And good for you for applauding your gray hair. Mine are coming in fast and while I haven't decided for sure what I'm going to do about them, I share the feeling of having earned each and every one. I hope I have the courage to just embrace them and move on with life.

I also like the Velma geek chic look on you. Ditto the trouble with frames fitting my face . . . I often try young adult size sunglasses, luckily I don't need rx. As for the grays, I had to pull gray eyebrows out recently! That is a bit of a shocker. Your blonde blends wonderfully with any gray you might have.

Yep, those glasses are perfect! Geek chic for sure, in the best sense of the term, and yet the colour and weight of the frames are not too heavy for your delicate fair complexion and (I must say gorgeous) blue eyes.

Oh, and the gray: good attitude. I've got a few now too, and I sort of like them. Mine show up a little more because my hair is brown. I feel the same way about grays as I do about the fact that people sometimes call me "ma'am": all grown up. Bring it on!

I think you look fantastic, I would totally wear a pair of glasses like that. I have been searching for two years to no avail. I don't need them yet but it will only be a matter of time, so I'm trying to prepare in advance. I have the opposite problem, a giant head and a big face, lol. It is shocking how bad most glasses look on me!
