New glasses

I was going to do a yay or nay but I’ve chosen them already. My glasses were scratched so I turned up to the optometrists Friday night. They tested me turns out the glasses I bought overseas were not progressives and I had to get new glasses. I basically had to pick them straight away so a young tired shop assistant helped me on a Friday night. I’ve been worried about what I actually chose as I had forgotten. Anyway I think I’m happy with my intuitive snap decision. I got prescription sunnies too.
I haven’t been on here much as my mum was in hospital for 5 weeks and I’ve been overrun with work. I’m back to jeans but have found some boot cuts I love. That’s for another day.

The tortoiseshell looks great on you, as does the brick red topper - sometimes our gut decision is the best one!

The glasses suit you! I liked your old ones but I like these even more. As Zaeobi says often the snap gut decision is the right one. Nice to see you again.

Thank you Zaeobi. Actually the topper (is it burnt red or orange) was another quick decision. My mum was in hospital and then moved to a resthome and I realised she didn't have enough clothes so I gave her my 2 warm fleece tops. I ran in the store to find a replacement for myself and found this drastically reduced on sale so grabbed it.
Thank you Star. I hope to get back on here regularly. Change of seasons usually makes me think about clothes more and its so comforting to see all the familiar names.

Thank you rachylou. We found her a resthome for some respite care and she has settled in there and has decided to stay there permanently. She got very lonely during covid as I was worried about giving her covid from my teaching job and stayed away. She lived with my brother but he is not a great communicator. She is loving the social life of the resthome so has decided to stay.

Hey, they say the gut's the second brain. Ya did good with your snap decision. Glad your mom is liking the acitivity of the rest home. I'm an only child and loved dorm life and it used to be my goal to live in an old folks home and, y'know, be healthy enough to enjoy the social life.

Those look great on you, happy for you the snap decision was so good.
And pleased your mother is doing well now. My Dad enjoyed the atmosphere in his small retirement village where they all ate dinner together, for several years.

Thank you all for your lovely comments. I feel really pleased with my new glasses after the approval of you all but actually not one single person has noticed that I changed my glasses.
I also loved the reaffirmation about rest homes as I didn't expect it to be a success. Especially liked your comment about the dinners together Jenni as yes she does like that....and LOL at Vildy for ambitions to join a rest home. I guess it is like dorm life.

The glasses look great, and so does the shirt. I believe the best decisions are not overthought; Taking a lot of time to make a decision does not mean you are doing a better job making that decision.

Wow, the story of my life. It's my whole problem with shopping, the constipated decision-making. My grown son is always coaching me to be more impulsive in choosing. As Staysfit surely knows, whole books are written about the complexities of decision-making and I've read plenty and really the shelf could be swept clear in favor of Staysfit's pithy summation!

@Sally I'm sorry about the situation in which you had to pick up that topper but I'm glad it's still serving you well - & that your mother is happy in her rest home I think staying social does a lot to keep the mind active too.

@Vildy the book Blink by Malcolm Gladwell comes to mind - about how actually shorter decision making packs in many more complexities than we may have thought.

ah yes, Blink. Points, I think, to the importance of visual information. Ironically internet shopping is nothing but visual (balanced only somewhat by customer review) and yet... Remember the viral photo of The Dress and whether it was white and gold or black and blue.

Even though it was a quick decision, you certainly made the right choice! The tortoise shell compliment’s your hair and eyes nicely.

It helped that my Dad was a gregarious person, much more so than my Mum had been. She very much didn’t want to go to a rest home and life granted her wish as she was well one day and dead the next ( of a heart attack at age 79). Dad had a fairly mild stroke at age 80 and went to the retirement village apartment after that. There were 6 at their dinner table, 4 women and 2 men. Dad and Eric were both widowers by then and the 4 women fussed over them both. Then Dad would go to Eric’s apartment to watch All Blacks games and they would munch on chocolate together. It gave them a lot of pleasure for a few years in their 80s. Before they got sicker…
