New and Current Earring Styles?

I have been wearing my diamond stud earrings for over 20 years and think it is time to make a change. The problem I am having is figuring out what is current yet will stay timeless. Is there such a thing?

Yes - from what I read and hear and talk to retailers about (in the course of a work day ). Gold (or silver if that's your preference) earrings in shapes like knots, twists, flowers, and different geometric shapes (look at Net a Porter for some ideas - from Verdura, Gucci, Cartier) are trending but are totally ageless. Bows (if you like preppy), smooth pebble shapes (if you like Tiffany/Elsa Perreti) , leaves (if you are into botanicals) , etc....I'm just thinking aloud here. But hey, diamonds are forever

I think Lisa is on the right page... maybe an updated diamond look? Still classic but something different from your current style. I have a pair of white gold w/ little diamonds flower shaped studs and I wear them daily.

I know you said timeless and these may be more of a trend, but I'm currently obsessed with my pair of ear climbers, so I thought I'd toss them out there. This is a simple pair, but there are tons on NOrdstrom's site. If you click on the link you can see how they look on the ear. I can't wear studs 24-7 because they poke behind my ear when I sleep and talk on the phone. These hug your ear so they are so comfortable. I get compliments on them all the time.

I tend to rotate through a few pairs of basic earrings. This year I was gifted a pair of gorgeous Mikimoto pear studs and the luster just doesn't compare to costume. I tried the earring in the front with an attachment in the back- I've got wonky lobes and uneven piercing so it just didn't look right. I'm interested to look through Net a Porter per Lisa's advice.

If you are used to diamond studs, how about another type of stud? I would agree with Muffin, Mikimoto pearls are worth every penny! Or your birthstone, or a jacket for your diamonds. Almost anything goes with earrings today but studs and buttons are always appropriate.

I have been wearing silver wire hoops for the past year or so. I like the size (1 inch) with my very short hair, and that they're casual.

I think of hoops as timeless...they come in all types of metals and sizes and everything from very simple to somewhat ornate. I've got some I've worn for years and I really don't think they go out of style. I've got diamond studs too, which I wear daily in a second set of pierced holes just above the normal hole earlobe placement. All kinds of hoops look good this way.
