Never my first choice but a reliable backup

Do you have outfits in this category? This chambray tunic shirt dress is one such. Wore it today when my jeans were on the line. Although fashionable when I bought it (3? 4? years ago) it's now just dependable and mostly seems to come out after have a 'nothing to wear' thought and then remember it!

I feel like all of my clothes in session for the season are "reliable backups" because I tend to have multiples of things that are staples so that I can switch out tops or bottoms without full outfit changes.

Perhaps sadly I am too vain to wear things I don't love.

Yes I know the feeling! The pale denim suits you.

I have a handful of pieces ( all older) that get worn when I want a change.

All my clothes are problematic in some way, so none seem to be a first choice.

I can't see the cut of the shirtdress, but the color looks great with both your hair & eyes. Maybe it should go back in the "regular" rotation? Also, because **cotton.**

Phoebe - yes we are different there - I try to wear out my clothes and very rarely have multiples. And also, in the example above I mentioned my jeans being on the line it's not always that- sometimes it's just not wanting something with a waistband.

Probably is regular by most people's ! Maybe every 3 or 4 weeks. It needs ironing, so getting behind on that can delay it getting into the available list! Sadly it isn't cotton (I share your love) - I it's lyocell. It tends to get dirty because I also wear it as home wear. I put it on to do the grocery shopping but kept it on all day (note: I'm in a very safe place re corona - no community transmission since April)

I know what you mean. My button down shirts, especially a chambray one fall into this category . My denim dress is close. I thought I would wear it this summer but the long sleeves look and feel too warm. Maybe it will be a transitional piece. Sometimes one just wants something different. Yesterday I wore a new-to -me color combination of a plumpish purple top with olive joggers and an olive jacket when needed. I liked the change although purple is not my color.

Two types of things come to mind:
- dupes of a top i bought in multiple colors but of course always reach for the same first (I noticed I even failed to put the dupes in finds)
- older items that are still in good condition, flattering etc, but no longer as exciting or stylistically essential to me (happens a lot with dresses - could it have to do with their limited styling options?)
