Neon Bright for Winter Gloom and K/T Edit: Toss Jacket

So, I haven't worn this yet (it's going to be 84 here today but only about 34 tomorrow) but in light of Angie's blog post today I thought I'd share it as one of my planned outfits to beat winter gloom.

And pardon one leg rolled up higher than the other - I was experimenting with which way I wanted to wear these.

Neon coral jacket - EB
Metallic gold cotton tee - BR
Black Ponte Pants - BR 2 years ago
Leopard Flats - Munroe from Nordies
Leopard Print Belt - ?

Is the jacket too bright and/or too "workwear" inspired? I'm not sure if I'm keeping it - I've only worn it once or twice as it feels almost "construction worker" orange, you know?

Edit: So I think it's an easy choice - the jacket just doesn't cut it.

Nice job using Angie's formula. Love the shoes and belt.

I'm not sure about that jacket. I'd like to see a front facing picture to be sure, but the fit looks kind of oversized and not in an intentional way if you know what I mean.

I'm not sure about the jacket, either. The color is beautiful, but the fabric looks very spring/summer to my eye. I think the trick with winter brights is finding something in winter fabric that's also a cheery color. I have a low tolerance for seasonal mixing, though, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Yeah, the jacket just isn't cutting it, you are right. It's not that it doesn't fit the way it was meant to fit (at least I don't think so) - I think it's more that the combo of the style, wrinkly fabric and the color add up to just not so great. I thought I'd post it at least once to hear some feedback but I already answered my doubts I guess by leaving it hang in the back of the closet for a year.

Funny thing is that I *thought* I had a lot of jackets but ends up, I only have a couple that I actually really like. I have several just taking up room and I need to move them on soon.

I love the belt and T tucking.
Not sure about jacket either. I understand brights with black but it's kinda really neon. The collar is not my fave and not sure about the fit--it isn't really showing you off.

I like the jacket, but not with black. It would look great with olive or dark blue. I don't think there's anything wrong with it. It 's just a variation on a utility jacket. It is kind of summery, though, but hey, it's 84!

I love this outfit on you! And I'm not feeling hate toward the jacket, either, but if you don't love it, then perhaps let it go. Meanwhile, let me rhapsodize about your shirt, pants, shoes, and belt combo!! I also really like the idea of a bright jacket to add to this. Although at 85 degrees I would not be wearing pants, sweater, OR jacket. At 85 degrees I am melting in my shorts and sleeveless top.

Thanks for chiming in Suz - I guess it's the combo of all I mentioned - the color, the wrinkled look, the "utilitarian" style of the jacket that has been a challenge for me. I know it's probably "fine" and actually looked pretty good IRL as the bright color def. brightens up the complexion and it looks really nice with the leopard - but I still just don't reach for this jacket.

I remember commenting a while back (maybe to Claire) that I'm finding it hard to enjoy anything too "utility" styled or "workwear" styled. I never wear my faded denim jacket but I do wear the dark blue denim one. I also never wear a lighter chambray jacket that has a "utility" style. Or even a deep olive field coat I thought I loved just seems too "manly" for me now.

Maybe this means that for me "utility" style items should be off limits for a while as I continue to find my style groove.

The jacket LOOKS good on you but I hear what you are saying about the style, Have you tried styling it with white jeans? They might tone down the utility aspect of it?

I think I understand about the style. I have never actually bought a utility jacket -- although I like the idea of them, in practice I am bothered by something whenever I try one on. I do wear my cropped denim jackets -- but mostly with skirts or dresses, which tend to feminize them. But the plentiful pockets and detailing on utility jackets seems too much going on for me, personally.

I see you've already made a decision on the jacket. You have an olive or khaki utility jacket don't you? What about that with a bright tee or top? I think the J Crew Tippi sweater comes in some bright colors.

The outfit is great and you should look for a bright jacket you like - the color is terrific!

I agree with everyone about the color of the jacket. It is great - but only you know if the color (and the style of the jacket) is for you. When you put it on does it feel like you are wearing the jacket or is the jacket wearing you? It almost looked like the jacket was wearing you to me.

Shevia - thanks for your kind words. The color is fun and if the style were just slightly different I'd probably like this a lot more.

Vickie, this jacket does feel more like it's wearing me. I do like the idea of the color but need to find the right style for a bright coat. I can't do a full coat as it's just too hot here to ever wear it.

I do have an olive utility jacket Pil - and I wore it quite a bit last year, but mostly for hiking and nature/ranch oriented excursions. It feels like that's the purpose for that one.

I also vote white jeans, which looks utterly fresh with orange and animal print. Jacket is fab and suits your very casual lifestyle. Does it have a back-tie?

Angie - the jacket has adjustable straps in the back. I think one may have been a bit tight and I didn't retake the photo after figuring that out. One thing I notice looking at a photo of it on is that the distance from the top pocket to the bottom pocket is partly what bugs me. It's like the top pocket was designed too high up on the jacket. And the wrinkling which is actually kind of puckering.

I may try it a couple more times before totally giving up but I am looking for something better. I'm LOVING that navy moto jacket!
