Please help me

DH gifted me with a beige pleated cotton trousers i so love... but I need to shorten it... (duh... I am 5 feet 3 and trousers are so not made for my height )...

I donot have the luxury of getting it done here and plan to do it myself and oh yes I will have to hand sew it...
I do some thread work and I am adapt at doing all the small finishings that are needed...
I need some help with how to proceed with this...
Any help is more than welcome.. I so donot want to ruin this
