Need Opinion: to shorten or not shorten a dress?

I have had this dress for YEARS and it is one of my favorites. But it doesn't get much wear because it hits me at an awkward length. While I enjoy it becuase it's different than anything else I own, I am wondering if I shorten it A) will i wear it more and B) will it make it less/more flattering? see it here: http://bit.ly/13CCAAj

I'd shorten it, but only by an inch or so. Sometimes a tiny bit can make all the difference. That style of dress might look unbalanced if it's too short -- and, because it's loose and flowy, give rise to unintended underwear exposure.

I would not shortened at all. It would look very unbalanced or just simulate the new length with max. 1,5 - 2 cm and make photo of you with the original length and and the new one length and you will see immediately which one is more flattery for you. .-)

Hmmmm, I am just not seeing what you see. I love it as it is!! Elegant, fluid, and the color is divine on you. Wrap dresses are just made for pears, IMHO, and this one is lovely.

But then, I do NOT bat for team short. I much prefer at the knee or a touch below as I feel like they are more versatile rather than club wear. A touch of length feels classier and more feminine to me.

Well, I look everywhere for wrap dresses in that length so I am jealous. However, you are young and I can see how you would like a shorter length. I say pin it up to the length you like and see how you like it.

I think I would shorten it, just to see a bit of kneecap, an inch or so.

Have you tried pinning it up to see? I personally like it at this length. But it might depend on what kind of footwear you like to wear with it.

If it's not getting worn as is, then hemming it or passing it on might be your only good options. But I agree with Suz that I'd try it on with different footwear and see how it works. Maybe make a few outfits around it as it is now, and see if that changes your opinion of it. Maybe even wear it as is a few times with different accessories and footwear, just to see if you adjust to and and to make sure you're certain about the change. i think it's flattering at this length, but it would probably be quite flattering if you hemmed it, too, as long as you paid attention to where, exactly, you hemmed it, and how the proportions look at that length.The color is fabulous on you!

I agree it looks beautiful as is but you could try pinning it an inch or so and different shoes to see if that makes you like it even more.

I would not shorten it. Don't make the same mistakes I made with some of my similarly cut dresses! They looked horrible once shortened and then I definitively
NEVER wore them again.

If you don't wear it now, there must be other reasons: is it the colour? Or maybe the shape is not you... or, again, you just haven't found the ideal footwear to modernize it. Put it away and re-evaluate in a few months.
