Hey all,
I'm trying to evolve my style a little bit for the new year and I need a little help. I've always been a knit rather than a woven gal, but more and more I find that knits feel frumpy to me. I'm talking about shirts/tops more than dresses.
I am short with a large bust for my height (5'2" and a 34DD), but a small waist I like to emphasize, so I need things that will close over the chest but not make me look big all over.
I also favor a retro style of dress - not a full-on vintage costume, but I wear a lot of vintage and vintage-inspired fashion. I was all about the cardigans for ages, but I find that I barely ever pull them out anymore. I like 60s-style sheath dresses and bombshell pencil skirts better than full 50s-style skirts.
I also want to skew a little more modern/artsy in my style, as I don't want to look like I stepped out of the past. Can the YLF minds help me figure out what kind of tops to buy?
To give you an example, here are some of my current favorite outfits:
- For work: black pencil skirt or wide-legged, high-waisted black pants with a black and white polka dot blouse - it's georgette, so a little bit sheer, flowy, with a tie neck. I wear it tucked in.
- For play: denim leggings, a short black 1960s vintage minidress (too short to wear alone) and my tall purple Fluevog boots. Or dark wash skinnies, loose white button-down shirt, and the same boots.
I love those "secretary" or "pussy bow" blouses and the way they look with pencil skirts, but I already own two of them. Would more be overkill?
What about jackets? I have one "boyfriend" blazer that I love right now, but that's all.
Thanks all!
