I'm also short waisted but slim fit tops i think look nice with a bottom that flows but not tight tight if you understand my meaning think I read something recently about slim tops with looser / flared cut bottoms and vide versus or slim bottoms and looser / flow tops I'm about to try it myself hoping it works. Waist surrending also nice but to me it's a more casual and relaxed look with a sweater prefect for college, work etc

Thanks Summer!

Shaz, I know what you mean. I think I need to wait until the skirt arrives. And if it works out I will go shopping for a top while wearing the skirt. Because I will need to - got the grey pullover just now and I'm going to return it. It's a much lighter grey than expected and quite warm with a yellowish tint. Doesn't work for me at all. But I don't think I will have a problem with finding something suitable.

No you shouldn't have any trouble finding one suitable for the fab skirt maybe just trouble picking your favourite one great idea wearing the skirt to find a top I must try that idea myself if I ever get a chance to shop in person

The skirt arrived and it is just lovely! So pretty fabric and great quality. And definitely dressy looking. It's longer than I expected which is great, because I think covered knees are more elegant. Sadly it's quite a bit too big. I'm going to take it to my alterations lady. It's a good thing I started looking early and still have time.

ETA
Okay, after a proper try and a second look I fear it might be too big full stop. And alterations would ruin the cut. I might need to return after all. I'm still always misjudging my size looking at things.

So I showed a friend who has some more sewing knowledge than me and she said she wouldn't risk it. I'm sending it back. Back to the beginning...

That's a shame, Astrid, it is such a pretty skirt. Back to the drawing board then. I'm sure there's something out there for you, and you still have the fallback outfit with your original skirt. Good luck with the search.

Shame, can you order size down? It is beautiful skirt.

Unfortunately not, it's now completely sold out.

I'm sorry, Astrid.

That's disappointing. Good luck with the next stage of the search!

Another update - I was browsing and saw by chance that they once again had the skirt in a size down, some returns I guess. I ordered it, let's just hope it really is a bit smaller than the size I've already tried.

Oh, good luck! DressT capsules are hard for me I often need separates, but I never finds them together in the same place or trip, so it's a waiting game to see what develops!

Waiting game is right! I've already done two trips looking in several stores and so far nothing. It would be lovely to just walk once into one store and find everything you need, but I guess that's a pipe dream... If the skirt works out I still need hose and (maybe) jewelry. I've pretty much decided to just wear the navy pullover and to stop looking for a different top. But if I buy jewelry for this occasion I want it to be something I can enjoy for years. I found a brand that makes lovely fashion jewelry made in Berlin, I thought I'd have a look there. A necklace or earrings maybe. Or else I'm just going to wear something of mine that I already have, even though I don't really own any more noticeable pieces.

The skirt didn't work out, it's still too big. BUT I found the perfect solution and I don't need to do much shopping. I really don't know why I didn't think of this sooner...

When I tried the skirt that came today I was suddenly reminded of my galaxy floral skirt. How did I forget about that one? It's knee covering and the fabric is nice and floaty, definitely more dressy than my other wool skirts. It's a thin wool silk mix. Then I tried it with the blue pullover, but the result was definitely too casual. And then a lightbulb went off and I remembered my black H&M blazer. I don't think I ever tried it together with this skirt before, but the fabric weight is perfect together and it's going to look good next to a suit. I think I didn't really think of it because it's my "funeral" blazer, but I guess it's time to make happy memories wearing it. Now I only need to buy a sleeveless shell to replace the cami I'm wearing in the pics. And I'm going to buy some nice earrings to wear with this, maybe at the store I linked to in the last post. I'm going to go have a look for both top and earrings tomorrow.

I'm also having a haircut on Friday, so I can do a trial run this weekend and take some pictures of the end result for you.

What what? Galaxy floral? This is gorgeous. I need a close-up! Great save!

Oh, well done! The galaxy skirt outfit is just perfect for the event, and hooray for shopping your closet!

You're looking good there! That outfit is perfect.

Una, it's really just a floral, but Aida mentioned it had a galaxy vibe from far away a while ago and it kind of stuck in my head.

Thanks Diana.

Thanks Bettycrocker!

LOVE the outfit you ended up with. You are on your way to a killer outfit. AND, you shopped your closet for it. Be sure to wear mascara and lipstick!

Thanks Angie! And yes, I definitely will do makeup for the occasion.

Great outfit Astrid - l love that skirt with the blazer, really perfect!

I love that you already had these too The skirt & jacket look great together.

You look great fab outfit on you

Looks great Astrid! Woot for the galaxy floral making an appearance I do rather like the "daintiness" the camisole is lending the look, so perhaps a more delicate shell is in order here.

Great skirt!!! If you don't find earrings you like, perhaps you could find a brooch since your jacket looks fairly plain?

Super way to SYC and come up with just the right vibe.
Now you can relax and later just keep your eye out for a dress that you might like to add in the future if the right one comes along, without feeling pressured.

I agree with Aida - i think the cami looks very nice here. Is there any reason why you wouldn't wear it? (Of course if it's worn out or pilled then replace it for sure.) This is going to be a super outfit for you!

Hard to believe you had that perfect skirt in your closet and didn't think of it!
It's great with the jacket!

Thanks everyone. The cami has spaghetti straps and is rather clingy and a bit worse for wear. Definitely only good for layering.
