Need help to choose shoes with this dress

My sister gifted me a new dress. Yay to that! It's a floral red and white printed jacquard dress in a fit and flare style. I love it....it fits well and looks very summery.

But I'm kind of torn between shoe choices. I would like the dress to be the star of the outfit, so I'm confused about shoe choices.

A few things you should know:

- I usually like to match my bag to my shoes if they are in a different color from my outfit. So if you choose black or tan for this dress, I'll keep both shoes and bag the same color.

- I do not love wearing white shoes. I wear them whenever needed, and often with white pants or shorts because I like to create a longer leg line and often match shoes to bottoms. I don't like the way white looks against my skin---it's too stark for my liking

So, what color do you think I should pick? While the model here is wearing black (it bookends with her hair) I'm not sure I love the look ( and that's a first! Coz I love black accessories!)

Should I pick red? I can wear red shoes n then go with a white bag (as both colors are from the outfit).

Or nude for me shoes/sandals? I have a feeling that tan shoes will look great but I'm not 100% sure. What do you guys suggest?

I'd go for metallic, personally. Either gold or silver, and not too shiny.

I'm kind of over the whole nude shoe thing personally. Maybe because I've never in my life found one that is actually nude on me. A pale gold does more or less the same thing and is more interesting.

Oh, i like diana's suggestion of metallic, too. I find metallics to be just as versatile as a nude to me color. Guess it depends on your skin tone to find the perfect nude to you shade. Anyway, metallic is a great suggestion! Do you have a metallic bag and shoes?

Thanks abc. You're a girl after my own heart! I usually wear nude shoes with MOST things, especially skirts n dresses. However, I have done n overdone it. Not that I'm complaining - it works for me. And I rarely try to fix what's not broken.

Diana I usually don't wear metallic shoes but I've been meaning to. Not like I don't have them - I do tend to wear both silver and gold with minimal shine whenever I wear ethnic Indian outfits. But I've never ever worn them with my normal clothes. Maybe I'll try it and see.

Thanks for the suggestions girls. Hmm....neither of you said 'tan'. Would tan be so bad? And why in the hell am I going on picturing this dress with tan!!!

No metallic bag! Honestly....I'm not a fan of metallics. I have a gorgeous gold and black high heel sandal that I bought because it's a work of art. Never worn that either :/

A really pretty dress and I bet the colour looks nice on you.
I think tan would look good, but base your choice on what looks good against your skin tone.

But red shoes would look great.
Red or tan bag too.

Blue would be nice, too. Navy, or something a bit lighter. Red and blue are a classic for a reason.

Mint, turquoise, or denim blue could be fun contrasting color options; blush, orange, or yellow for less contrasting color. I'd personally do white or metallic, but I see neither of those are quite your style. The tan you've mentioned would work nicely for a lower contrast more classic look. I actually quite like the black as they've shown in the stock photos for some serious contrast, but if you like to highlight your hair that would take away from it a bit (tan or lighter shades would do just the opposite).

What an lovely dress! Cognac would work, as a casual choice. I love the idea of cobalt or mint for contrast, too. I do enjoy a metallic, but like a burnished, not shiny tone. Pewter and bronze can be interesting.

Smittie, I do have pretty red peep toe shoes. I also have pointy toe shoes, so I'll try both on.

Aida and Beth Ann, I almost always wear low contrast shoes. I have short legs and am very careful about lengthening them, so a nude to me shoe, cognac, tan and metallic shoe sound best.

Are you thinking about the tan sandals that you posted about in your other thread? If so, I'd say no to tan for myself. Tan shoes seems like a "wasted" color to me - it doesn't contrast (or add sharpness) with the colors in your dress - and its not as functional as a nude (which extends the leg line and puts the focus entirely on the dress!) So, how about a cobalt blue - or, a denim blue? Or, a pink that is intense as the red? Pink and red are mixed a lot these days. I think that black shoes the model is wearing looks really great with the dress. You could also try an aqua/turquoise color. I'm a metallics fan so I'd love to see you wear metallic accessories with the dress!

This is kind of a light bulb moment for me! Thanks a ton Marley It's just dawned upon me that tan is, infact, a wasted color. I do have plenty of options in nude to me shoes. I also own plenty of black, and in fact I do own the black shoes the model is wearing here.

I can see that most of you suggest a contrast and vote for blue/cobalt/Aqua shoes. I do like the idea of putting the focus completely on the dress, but I think I will experiment with red, deep pink and black shoes.

Since it's clear to me now that tan is not such a great color, I will instead look for silver and gold sandals that are current and look good with dresses and pants. The ones I have now are all super high heels to be paired with ethnic Indian outfits of sarees and anarkalis which I only reserve for weddings etc.
