Need an opinion on this bag - Yay or Nay!

As you know I have been looking for a new bag in neutral color for a while. I have bought this bag last Saturday. I liked the shape and hardware and I don't have a black bag yet.
It has two handles and a long strap so I can wear it both as a satchel and a cross body and even a shoulder bag. I think the size is right for me too.
However when I got home, pulled all stuffing out of it and began to take pictures I noticed one thing which bothers me. See pic 3 - how the top of the bag gets distorted when you hold it? Is it normal for bags of this style to behave like this or is it a poor design and I better off returning it. It was not cheap - I got it on sale for $96 down from $223 - so I will keep it only it is a "10".

I don't think it's a sign of poor quality that it sags like that, Sveta, but if it bothers you then it probably isn't a "10" in your book. Since I love bags, I've learned to remove all the stuffing right there in the store and fill the bag with my actual purse contents just to see how it will "really" look when I carry it around. Prevents surprises like this at home later.....

I don't think the bag looks that bad in #3...but if you're really bothered by it then you might want to return it.

Thanks, Nancy. It was the spur of the moment to buy this bag after all so I decided to look at it at home as the store was closing and it was the last day of 25% off sale...

It's a cool bag, but it seems like you need to keep it full for it to keep it's shape. Can you stick a small hardcover book into it to keep the shape?

It's a cool bag, but that would drive me nuts. Maybe when it's broken in a bit, it will sag more evenly. It's a gamble, though.

I would return it - something that bugs you from the start will just distract from your enjoyment of using it. It's no bargain unless you love it...

Thanks for your moral support! Looks like I was right that it should go back. I think I will check other bags in this style in the store in case it was just this bag issue and it does not exist in pthers.

It's a great bag, but perhaps you are after something more structured?

I love the hardware and over all look! I am not knowledgeable about when bags are supposed to be structured or not, lol, so it looks fine to my untrained eye.

Love the bag, Sveta, but that would drive me bonkers, too. I would want it to hold its shape. Such a shame!

I love the bag, but I think the handle will pull like that unless it's attached to the sides at the top, rather than in the middle. It's one of my pet peeves, because I love bowling and doctor bags styles, but they need to be more structured to keep that shape.

It is a beautiful bag, though.

It's supposed to be a good sign when the leather is sort and pliable. Not that you want a pool of leather for a satchel, but unless there's some softness, it won't mould nicely around your hips when carried crossbody.

The super structured satchels can look like wearing a lunchbox on your hip

I think it's smashing and fine, but the if the lack of holding its shape bothers you, then like Angie said, maybe you're in the market for something *more* structured?

P.S. I get more bothered by bags that loose their shape when actually carried - like their bottoms sag instead of staying flat

Angie, I don't mind intended slouch in the bag but this one looks like it was an oversight rather than design.

Una, I think if they had a sturdy piece of metal or plastic run through the lid to hold the shape thta would solve this problem. Alas, this is just a soft leather without structure...
It goes back: you are right, if it bothers me now it will drive me nuts every time I use it. I will keep my eyes open for other bags in this style and hopefully of better design.

Great size and shape but a bag with a flaw (whether real or perceived because of a taste preference) has to go back. We use bags too often to keep a meh bag.
