Need a wicked look.

Frequent lurker here...
As a birthday present to my mom and sister, I'm taking them to see Wicked in 3 weeks.

I spent the past few years being rather overweight and got into the habit of wearing nice but non-descript black outfits any time I went out. But over the past year I've dieted like a madwoman and I've gone from a 14 to a 6 (a 4 in vanity-sizey brands).

I want to buy a new and fabulous dress and accessories to wear. I need some inspiration that is something other than a little black dress. Any ideas?

Wow, congratulations!! What color(s) do you love/feel great in? I think it is a nice idea to go with a color over black. You will feel so good "showing up" instead of blending in. I don't know what to tell you about style of the dress... I'm sure others will chime in on that one. As for shoes, I am loving the pointy toe ankle strap shoes that are so popular right now. I have a pair of nude Nine West ones (see below) that are comfortable and go with everything! Please post what you end up wearing. We will enjoy seeing it!

Lol thanks--I actually bought a leopard print pair of shoes very similar to that a few weeks ago.

As far as colors, I like pretty much anything, and yes I want to "show up"

Oh the leopard print sounds awesome!! And would also work with any color... That doesn't help narrow it down at all. Do you like solids or prints?

Have you used the "finds" feature on this so site yet? You can search through all of the dresses that the different ladies have collected. That might narrow it down a little as to what appeals to you...

I didn't know about the finds feature. I'll check it out.

I generally prefer solids, but open to anything. I like coral a lot, and purple and I have actually discovered (thanks to THIS SITE) that I can wear white and ivory and not look like the marshmallow man from ghostbusters.

A body changes quicker than the mind does. This is the time to experiment and find what fits and suits your new body. I went on a similar journey a few years ago and found that experimenting is the best way to find what works. I tried on all different styles and cuts. Things I thought should work didn't. Things I never thought would work, did. So...go shopping, try on everthing and see what suits your new body. Nordstrom and Macy's both have good dress departments.
I hope you, your mom, and sister have a wonderful time...such a lovely gift.
Oh, and pinterest is a great place for inspiration.

Congratulations! What an exciting event to dress for. You could browse through Angie's ensemble posts on the blog for some inspiration. a lot of them are separates rather than dresses, but you'll get some ideas of silhouettes and colors nevertheless.
