Necklace - help me decide

I have been looking for a necklace with a touch of red for ages now. I have had these 3 in particular on my ebay watch list off and on all year! I've been in love with the Tom Binn's multi strand #1 since I saw it in People Style Watch mag 2 years ago! But I'm always worried it's just 'too much'. More that imaginary lifestyle rather than the real one I live lol. #2 is also Tom Binn's but more understated. Lastly #3 is a Guess one I'm really drawn to but I worry it's too similar to a necklace I already own #4. So . . . go for the fantasy necklace I fell in love with at first sight? Go for the more mainstream version of it that may be more wearable in real life, but then I'll always wonder if I just settled for a watered down version? Or go for the Guess in a style I know I already wear easily because I have a similar one getting worn to death? And, no, I can't just grab 'em all! Oh, of course there is the option to buy none of the above, but I really really would like to finally have a red necklace!

I am really drawn to the elegance of #2, but #1 is gorgeous could be a really powerful stand-alone statement piece if you wore it with something really, really simple. I just think #2 could have more potential to be versatile, so that is something to consider. Would you care to share outfits you would want to wear with your new necklace?
I think your existing necklace is also very pretty - #3 is quite similar to it, and it would be great to add something a bit different to what you already have to your jewelry collection.

Mo, if you've had that first one in your sights for two years now, I'd say you should go for that one! I like the second, simpler version too.

I love your necklace, Malina, and I love the third - it is similar to what you have, but it has the red and I adore this style. Another option is to have a jeweller add some extra red baubles to something you already have....so FWIW, given my above filter disclaimer, I vote Guess as my first preference, and the multi strand Tom Binns (pic 1) as my second preference- I don't think it's too much at all and the fact that you're still in love with after two years says a lot! And of course, it will be impossible to go wrong with the simpler version of it, too.

Kari, thanks for positing the question of what outfits I would wear it with. I know it sound obvious but I sometimes think in the abstract and not specific instances. With the thought of possible outfits now running in my head, many of them would be neutral based and therefore needing that little pop of color. But . . . on closer inspection most of them also would have a hardware detail of some sort and the multistrands could very well end up being 'too much' when paired with zippers or brass buttons or buckles or the like! Hmmm, food for thought. Maybe I *do* need two ha ha ha!

I'd say go with the first love-at-first-sight necklace and make a commitment to incorporate it into your 'real' life. L

I don't think the first one is too fantasy lifestyle for you. You need to wear it with a very simply flowy top, that's how I see it.

So, my first choice is #1, my second is #2. I don't worry as much about jewelry going orphan because a) jewelry has a longer life and b) it takes up little space and c) costs less (sometimes).

The third looks too similar to the one you already own.

Does that help narrow it down any, or would either #1 or 2 work equally well? I do believe #3 is too close to what I already so it's out of the running.

I like #1 followed by #3. But I love big statement jewelry.

Go for your true love! Your tops have the larger necklines that will show off the multistrand necklace nicely. And since you're in Florida that's pretty much what you'll be wearing all the time. You can always pick up a more subdued looking necklace, if the one you already own doesn't work out.

Oooh! I don't think I have ever seen that pretty olive dress on you before. I *love* that outfit. I think you should buy necklace #1 now just so you can wear it with that exact combination of clothing.
I also like the idea of wearing the necklace with your black turtleneck and jeans, similar to #3, perhaps with a cute jacket and metallic handbag, and letting the necklace speak for itself.

Hmmm, looks like #1 is pulling into the lead. Of course, it's by far the most expensive! But birthday time is rolling around in a few weeks . . . "Oh, honey - look what you bought me!" hee hee

Thanks to all of you for your input, and Kari especially for helping me be less abstract and actually thinking through how I'd utilize the piece with my wardrobe.

By the by, this may be last FL summer for some years (of course I've said that before!) and so it may be even easier to pair with a wintery selection of clothing once back in Tahoe

My personal preference is #2, but I think if you've been pining for #1 for more than two years, you should definitely get it!

This is going to sound strange, but it seems that often when I finally buy an item I've been eyeing for a long, long time it ends up disappointing me! It's almost like I'm in love with the "idea" of it rather than the "reality" of it. I'm wondering if this might be the case with #1. Would it be a necklace you would actually wear, or would it end up looking pretty but mostly hanging in your closet?

Is it the red you crave, or the multistrand look? If it's multistrand I'd go for #1, but if it's red you want maybe #2 (the toned-down version of #1) is the better choice. I think #3 is definitely too much like the necklace you already own, so I'd knock that one out of the running.

I love #1 for you, but I'm not considering the heat at all If I consider that, I say #2.

#1. It is the one you really love. IMO, jewelry is all about fantasy.

Of course this coming from someone trained as a fabricator who likes to make pieces using taxidermy eyes.

I think #1 would fit your outfits, but I wonder about actually running around in it. A lot of movement may cause the strands to tangle, and I know I cannot wear that much metal when it is hot or humid. With that in mind, I vote for #2, since it still has the same design elements of the one you love.

My favorite is #1 - next favorite is #2. #3 is too much like the one you already own! If you think that this is going to be your last summer in Florida, then definitely #1 is the way to go (if you're concerned about wearing it in the heat.) But, you've been wanting #1 for years - you have the carriage to pull off a multi-strand statement type of piece - so I still vote #1!

I really just can't decide!! This is so typical - I long for something and just can't pull the trigger. I wish I could try them on in person. They are returnable but I'd rather not do the whole line at the post office thing. You guys all have good and valid points! argh.

Part of me thinks #2 for now in FL and #1 at xmas back home. but then that supposes that they'll still be available and it also brings up the similarity factor all over again. sheesh.

You'd think with this kind of back and forth thought process, I'd be rich because nothing would ever get bought LOL!

Well, my lollygagging and dilly dallying paid off! The multi strand went on 20% off sale so it's a full $100 less than original price. Yay! I won't get it for about a week or two (free slow shipping) but still 2 weeks before my birthday, so I'll be able to wear it that night. Time to start planning an outfit around it LOL!
And if I regret it when it comes, I do have 3 days to return and get the smaller tassle one still in time for bday night.

Thanks Rae! I imagine it's easy to forget about my dual climates - it's certainly not the norm. And half the time I forget and stock my closet for just one while I'm living it - d'oh! (wouldn't you know I found out BOTH necklaces are 20% off - I just bought the most expensive for now. Bigger savings

If you have had your eye on #1 for a year then that is a pretty good indication to me that you MUST get it. You will simply never be happy putting on another. You WILL make it work with your real life!
