Neat makeup trick for green-eyed lasses

It could be that everyone knows this already, but I just discovered something neat. Purple eyeliner makes my pale greenish-grey eyes look green. Like, really, properly green.

I've been meaning to try this since the time I had a black eye a few years back. As it healed, it developed an intense reddish-purple line along the upper lid, and several people commented on how green my eyes were. I thought it would be worth getting a purple eyeliner (red seemed a bad idea) to see if it would mimic the effect. It does!

Yes, I've done the same with my brownish-green eyes! Love the purple!

yep. Occasionally I've even used a burgandy/purple lip liner as an eyeliner to bring out the green in hazel/brown eyes.

Another green eyed lady who uses purple eye makeup. The Exact Eyelights by Cover Girl mascara and liner to be exact - it's more a brownish raisin purple.

I occasionally use dark purple as well for the same reasons. Might try to pick up a lighter burgundy as well. My go-to liner is bronze/brown which also works well with green.

Ah, you've discovered my secret.

Purple shades make my blue-green eyes look greener. If I wear greyer tones on my eyes, my eyes look bluer. It also depends on what color top I'm wearing too.

I've never tried purple mascara. That could be fun!

Me too, on the purple eyeliner. I alternate purple and green, depending on the day/outfit. Green also makes my eyes look greener.

Beth Ann -- I wonder if it makes a difference whether your eyes are blue-green (like mine) or brown-green (hazel)? I don't look particularly great in purple tops. But maybe that has more to do with skin colour than eye colour.

Right before my senior prom I got conjunctivitis in both eyes, so that the whites were bright red. Talk about making green eyes look ultra green!

Have to admit, purple eyeliner is much more fun and attractive way to accomplish that.

Any tips to make brown eyes look greener? lol. Always been jealous of gals with colored eyes - this is such a cool concept to me!

This is going on my shopping list right away. Thanks for the tip! My green eyes do look quite different shades depending on what I am wearing (makeup, necklace, top, etc.) and I do wear eyeliner every day. I have a dark brown and a more pewter shade of eyeliner right now but look forward to trying purple!

@Rae - My eyes have been slowly green over the past few years. There is still a touch of brown left around the center, but purple shadow was a fun way to play up the green when it wasn't as prominent.

Okay. So I have big green eyes - but they are dark, so not dramatic like light green eyes. I have long thick lashes that hang over my eyes like curtains though. If I were to wear purple eyeliner and mascara with my bright green specs - well - I'd probably scare you all away. Monstrous.

My purple eye pencil and shadows are deep eggplant or wine colors, and I apply them pretty sparingly for the most part.

Purple and green are almost across from each other on the colour wheel. I worry that the purple will have too much red in it and that is not the effect I am after. I have a colourful face and purple eye makeup would look clownish. Neutrals for me.

I saw a lovely young woman with big brown eyes wearing green eye shadow. It looked amazing.

Lol @Angie! I can't imagine you looking like a clown. But it's true, your eyes are much bigger and greener than mine. Mine are pretty small and narrow, and pale with a dark limbal ring. They usually look more grey than green. I rarely wear eye makeup other than mascara, because a lot of dark liner tends to make my eyes, already deep-set, look like two black holes in my face.

Janet, the purple I chose is a deep burgundy/eggplant (brownish-reddish-purple) -- like yours -- and I just put a little in the outer half of my upper lids. Your eyes are far nicer than mine, too -- you can pull off a much more dramatic look.

I don't wear makeup, apart from lipstick and tinted lip balms.
I am always afraid to apply anything else, incase I cross the line - but I will definitely try coloured eyeliner for my hazel eyes; it sounds so simple!

Urban Decay makes a fabulous eggplant colored liner called Rockstar. I've used it with great results on my hazel eyes.

I've never been brave enough to try colored mascara, but I do wear this eyeliner in violine and cassis on occasion. You inspired me to break out the violine today, which is really purply.
